Ok, so I mentioned in a post earlier that I got an Xbox One for $99 but I still haven't gotten Fiveza yet. I also mentioned that I would let you people know how I did it later. Well, "later" is now!
Best Buy ( an electronics store for you non-American's) was having a deal last week (ended on Saturday) that if you brought in a Xbox 360 or PS3 they would give you a gift card for $100. Well about 5 years ago, I got my first Xbox 360. The Xbox 360 Elite (which, by the way, was my intro to Forza as it came with Forza 2).
Fast forward a couple years and I got the Xbox 360 Slim since my Elite wasn't acting right. Kept the Elite though as it would still play DVD's. Then, last year, I went to a garage sale and they had two Xbox 360 Arcade's for $15. Not each. Total. So I picked them up as parts for the Elite (worse case scenario, I could have sold them for $20 or $30 each).
Fast forward one final time to last Wednesday. I came in with all four of my Xbox's and ended up getting 4 $100 gift cards. Thursday night they were having the Xbox One midnight release and I decided to try my luck. My Best Buy store got 38 Xbox's for those who didn't pre-order. I was number 36. So I got the Xbox One for $99.99 (Alaska has no sales tax in Anchorage) after my $400 gift card discount.
I'll be the first to admit that I was lucky as shit because shortly after I got there, many more people showed up and got turned away.

I'm surprised they gave you 4 gift cards. Seems like that would be a limit 1 per customer kind of thing

this is what I was thinking.
doesn't seem impossible to get the 4 boxes, do they take broken ones?

Even if you were paying 50-75 a box from craigslist or a pawn shop or whatever that'd be worth the effort

Also just wanted to point out, you could have told us before the deal was over...

it would have. don't really know why the dude didn't tell us before the deal was up...I'd have done it. I doubt many Jalops are in the Anchorage area.
And it was 100$ minimum, if you craigslisted and got a couple of the elites for a bit more you'd have netted a bigger profit

My bad. Busy from the holidays as well as my 2 year old daughter, and pregnant wife. The only reason we knew about it was because Best Buy put it on their front page during the deal. My wife likes to find all those deals so that's how we figured out about it.

It sort of was. It was limit one per transaction. There was a dude in front of me who did it with 7! Basically, instead of getting one gift card with $400, I got 4 gift cards with $100.

So in reality, you got an XBox One for the price of an Xbox 360, a 360 Slm, and 15$.
Or, to break it down: $479 + $199 + $15 + $100 in value was traded for $499.
If you had sold your consoles on Ebay, you would have gotten $100 + $200, assuming you couldn't sell the Elite. Selling the damaged Elite would have gained you around $50. That's $350 or so.
So you spent $739 to get a $499 console. If you had not used Best Buy's deal, you would have spent $842 to be in the same spot. So the deal has made you $93 richer. Sounds like a good deal!

So I hate math. But I'm happy with the outcome! It works for me!
