F1's naturally aspirated era has just signed off after 25 years, so here's a totally unrelated video, which is way cooler than F1 ever dreamed to be.

This is the sound of God's Chainsaw.
![]() 11/24/2013 at 14:52 |

This is a 370Z I'd sell my testicle for (left, in case you were wondering).

you know... that thing seem to make a lot more noise than go... it does sound good though.
![]() 11/24/2013 at 15:35 |

Truth be told, I was wondering

In the words of the immortal Drift King Keiichi Tsuchiya, "Not a sports car!"
But nice video though.

I just love the fact when cars are used out of their comfort zone.
![]() 11/24/2013 at 15:47 |

Well, when you have 1-2 seconds of throttle between bendy sections of the course, you're probably not going to go terribly fast.

This car is bad ass and looks cool but, it is almost going into the India painted truck department.
![]() 11/24/2013 at 15:52 |

Sounds fantastic. Wanted more tail out. I've always wondered why this car doesn't get much love around these parts (Jalopnik).
![]() 11/24/2013 at 16:22 |

That exhaust note. My godddd
![]() 11/24/2013 at 16:25 |

It sounds like it's epiglottis is full of bees.

I think it's a bit 'big' for most people's taste. And honestly it does feels rather 'big' when you're driving one... though it's still pretty small compared to most cars on the road.
People also tend to think it weighs a lot - but it (the base Z w/ sport pkg) has the weight of an E36 M3 with the power of an E46 M3.
![]() 11/24/2013 at 16:47 |

Love the sound...it's like a hundred million screaming wasps. Really surprising how composed it looks through those corners, but I guess that could be mostly the driver. Pretty awesome though. Except for that ugly livery.

Took the words right out of my mouth
![]() 11/24/2013 at 17:28 |

Damn it sounds like a herd of angry elephants!
So awesome.
And I much prefer the front fascia on this than the new one.
and cause why not:

Heavy, Heavy, Slow, Slow. (thats why)

DAT EXHAUST NOTE

Is it me, or does this have more of a turbo 4 banger sound than a big V6? Anyone know whats up?
![]() 11/24/2013 at 18:55 |
|
IT sounds like nothing like a turbo l4.
For a comparison:

It's probably not far from stock, I know that most the 350 Z rally classes are close to stock, so id imagine this is the same story
![]() 11/24/2013 at 21:01 |
|
thats just what an unplugged vq sounds like. kind of buzzy but in race trim quite nice
![]() 11/24/2013 at 21:31 |
|
In Dirt2 I think, they had 350z trailblazer cars.
![]() 11/24/2013 at 21:48 |

kinda weird. Never heard an unplugged VQ. Nissan likes giving it that low tone, just thought that was more natural than manufactured. You can kind of hear the tone when the Z is coming out of corners for a split second.

Let me point out that "proud of Cobalt" is saying that a 370z is heavy, heavy, slow, slow. I guess he jerks off his head quite often, and then "comes" with such words of wisdom.
![]() 11/24/2013 at 22:18 |

I had no idea there were many female rally drivers :)

Earlier today I was wondering what Bees would sound like if you inject them with stuff from Lance Armstrong's medicine cabinet. This video answered that question, and my Sunday evening is complete.
![]() 11/24/2013 at 22:50 |

Goddamn that VQ37 sounds great! And it looks pretty fast for being naturally aspirated too...
![]() 11/24/2013 at 23:23 |
|
the VQ35 sounds different though. Here's the 350Z version.
![]() 11/24/2013 at 23:27 |
|
Those 350s sound a thousand times better than that 370. Such a mean growl
![]() 11/25/2013 at 00:33 |
|
This is by far the best sounding VQ-37 motor out there. Man that sound is ridiculous.
![]() 11/25/2013 at 05:37 |
|
the most evil, and delicious sounding, 370 I have ever heard.
![]() 11/25/2013 at 07:13 |

And it's a French driver, very well known in my region, Eric Mauffrey.
Before the 370z he drove the Megane RS, an in the past, the astonishing Peugeot 306 Maxi: 4 cyl 2 litre naturally aspirated, FWD, 280 Bhp, for less than 950 Kg, and also 10 000 rpm, former car of French rally champion Gilles Panizzi:

nice to see you having fun in your datsun, i challenge you with this epicness
![]() 11/25/2013 at 09:21 |
|
Is it slow?
![]() 11/25/2013 at 10:05 |
|
There are other cars with less-then-ideal weight and power which still manage to get the OK around here. Interesting how some cars get Jalopproval and some get left in the cold.
![]() 11/25/2013 at 10:06 |
|
It's faster than my car.
![]() 11/25/2013 at 10:15 |
|
I wouldn't really trust the opinion of the guy with "Proud of Cobalt" in his name.
![]() 11/25/2013 at 10:40 |
|
Top Gear already did this when doing their perfect road trip. But it was real rallying, in mud, not on tarmac.
![]() 11/25/2013 at 11:48 |

I love when people knowingly, and incorrectly, call Nissans Datsuns. As if it's some kind of insult. That said, I'd sell both kidneys for either car.
![]() 11/25/2013 at 12:46 |
|
Only if it's the SS Turbo version. Otherwise, no....
370Z: 3,232 lbs. 332 hp/269 tq
Cobalt SS TC: 2,815 lbs. 260hp /260 tq (290 hp/320 tq GM stage 1)
![]() 11/25/2013 at 13:55 |
|
I love this more than is legal in most states.
![]() 11/25/2013 at 14:14 |
|
those 350z's had mufflers. the 370 was probably straight pipes
![]() 11/25/2013 at 18:07 |
|
They used a 350Z
![]() 11/25/2013 at 19:48 |
|
Are you sure they're not running straight pipes? I mean i have no idea, but they're race cars so I kind of just assumed they ddin't have mufflers.
![]() 11/25/2013 at 23:59 |
|
i am sure of nothing!
![]() 11/26/2013 at 11:17 |

All going to the front wheels with a domestic interior. :)
![]() 11/26/2013 at 12:30 |
|
Yes, I see now that I didn't notice that it said 370Z not 350Z. My mistake.
![]() 11/26/2013 at 12:47 |
|
Very true, but it still embarrasses many RWD cars around a track. It's within a half second of the Nismo 370Z around Laguna Seca without the GM Stage 1 upgrade.
![]() 11/26/2013 at 14:22 |
|
I'm sure it's fast, but I still can't imagine fwd being as fun as rwd, even if it's slower. Just personal preference. Also, the Z looks cooler. :P
![]() 11/28/2013 at 00:58 |
|
Likely an HR head on VQ block. Nice car. Think my supercharged car was faster though.
![]() 11/28/2013 at 04:47 |
|
A 2007 Cobalt SS has a 8.22 at the ring. That as fast as the e46 m3 and the r32 skyline, and faster than a bunch of "higher end" cars, and that's without the manufacturer ok'd stage 1/2/3 kits. Pretty hard to knock a car fighting that high out of it's class.
![]() 11/29/2013 at 12:16 |
|
It can still be fun, it's just a different kind of fun that involves a different approach to oversteering goodness.
![]() 11/29/2013 at 12:18 |
|
Indeed it did. It doesn't get the respect it deserves, but those who own one smile in secret knowing what they have is under the radar.

So many angry bees!
![]() 12/13/2013 at 13:00 |

This is an interesting phenomenon. I think it is less than loved because it is almost "trying too hard" and to me it is a somewhat 'generic' sportscar. Though it could be argued the mustang is the same, although it will likely be better value.

This sounds INSANE! Want!
