This asshat, illegally parked, parked me in this evening. After calling the city, the police and tow, the cops arrived to oversee and assist me in pulling out because I wanted witnesses in case of contact. I wanted the tow, but the officers convinced me that, due to how busy they are this evening, trying to pull out would be best. 9 points later, I was out. Any other day of the week, they said, it would be the hook... just the same they put in a call to the city to have the owner ticketed.

Yes, that's a yellow curb. Badly beaten, but yellow. How do I know? I've seen the tickets issued for parking on the yellow in the past. Here you can see the yellow at both wheels and the over-hang obstructing the entrance/exit to the lot behind it.
EDIT:
Oh, and I should probably add that the car in front had left me between 8 and ten inches, at most.

Arguably, might still be a hippie.
A quick way to test would be to bang on the door and see if anyone wakes up.

Wait, the cops have to call the city to have the car ticketed? What good are they if they can't even issue a simple parking ticket? What city is this?

And it's not that they need to authorize the ticket, it's that the city parking enforcement, the Commissionaires, wouldn't typically be out this way, this time of evening.
But you have a great point - I was somewhat dismayed to discover that there was pretty much nothing that I could do without first involving the police.

I learned to drive on a '77 Type 2. Stick. None of this fancy Westfalia automatic garbage. Thus, I think less Hippie and more douchecanoe.

I would've jacked it up, had some friends help me roll it out into the middle of the street and left it there. No patience for hippie asshats.
