Kinja'd!!!

Hey Oppo. I wanted to gather some suggestions on another "car buying" column. I am currently drafting a piece about how Hyundai and Kia are not going to succeed in the luxury game due to their dealerships not products. Anyway, are there any topics regarding car buying (new or used) that you are curious about? I already covered how to view salespeople and the leasing game. Oh, my new contact at the Audi dealer just dropped me a line again and said "If any of your clients are interested in S/RS models, an R8, Audi exclusive, or European delivery we can make special arrangements." I already asked about the RS6 Avant...no luck. RS7 pictured is a vehicle they just sold.

This isn't a suggestion; it is an order. Get me one of those RS7s.

How about a piece on how far Hyundai/Kia have come in terms of general quality over the last 15 years?

There are still those who have one bad previous experience from years ago who flat refuse to believe that the South Koreans are capable of making quality vehicles.

Can you ask your Audi contact about getting me an A3 TDI with a manual? I'm willing to drive out to pick it up.

One thing find myself coming back to a lot is the used R8 market. I still adore the design and I'd have zero trouble driving one that has a few less horses than the newest thing, and no fancy all-LED headlights. They still look very fresh on the road, at least for me.

I'd enjoy seeing some numbers then on how a used R8 would do against something much more normal in terms of maintenance etc.

I do address that briefly in this piece and I think the numerous product reviews address that as well. I was working on a piece called "Why the Kia Cadenza is the 5-series For People Who Aren't Shallow." But kept loosing steam and couldn't finish it...maybe I will revisit it. Thanks. :)

Considering how that car is now discontinued in the US I don't think he can help much. He only deals in new Audis. I'll try to locate a few for you, what is your budget?

For new cars...don't, loans are cheap. If you do buy with cash don't tell the dealer till the until the last minute. So yeah a financing post might be good. And I can talk about cash buying. Thanks!

Oh no I wanted a new one, the hatchback that they don't sell here anymore. But if I'm going to buy a new car it'll be a Golf TDI, but I want to buy that M3 I was telling you about.

The Golf TDI is the better value...personally I couldn't justify getting an Audi without Quattro. Yeah go for the M3...the E46 is an all time classic.

Yeah the Golf is better value, but I do like the look ofof the Audi more and it would be a tad quieter I would assume. But getting the Golf would allow me more of an allowance to customize it and turn it into a GTD (which is totally doable thanks to ECS).

While the Golf is a much more practical choice, the M3 is the car I want, or at least this low mileage one because it's like an albino unicorn, they just don't exist. The only problem is my mom doesn't want me to buy it and I don't want to disappoint her.

Well if you are still living at home you gotta keep the parents happy. There will be other M3s.

Yeah but my mom's not an ass, I think she'll let me get it, she just won't help me like she would with the Golf. But no need to worry myself until I have the money to buy it.

Is there any benefit to getting a loan when you buy a new car? I always figured that if you can buy a car outright that it is a better option because you don't pay interest.

Great question and you are the second person to bring up financing. I'll try to get a full post next week. Thanks! :)

Oh sorry, so no interest is better but some dealerships negotiate less with cash buyers its actually more hassle for them.

That makes sense. When my mom bought her jetta she didn't tell the dealer she was paying with cash until they we went to pick it up.
