I used to play Need for Speed, Forza, Gran Turismo. Name a racing game and I have probably tried it at some point. Have i wasted too much time on games that could have been used in more productive ways, most definitely.

Now I'm playing Assetto Corsa and I'm in love.

Why don't you join me.

With a goal of setting up an Assetto Corsa League if the circumstances are right, ie there is enough interest and people I'd like you to join me.

For the moment the league would consist of what are essentially timed lap competitions until Multiplayer is added.

If you have not looked into it yet or have not even heard of Assetto Corsa let me give you a brief overview. Assetto Corsa is a new racing sim that you can buy on steam as an "early access" game, essentially it's a beta. A very well done beta. Over the years I have tried IRacing, GTR2, Rfactor2, Rfactor and many more. AC, in my opinion, is the best overall sim racing physics I have had a chance to put my hands on. I realize this is all personal opinion and preference and I'll admit I have not tried IRacing for over a year in which time has had significant updates however the game is worth a try if you have not. Want to graduate from Forza or Gran Turismo? Give this is a try and let me know if you want to join an Oppo League.

Now go watch the video, buy it, and signup.

Did they add AI yet? From what I heard, its just you on the track right now, with a few cars.

Yea it's just you at the moment. It's "early access" ie BETA. They are doing updates every two weeks including two cars. Which is why it's 22% off full price on steam. I've been hot lapping for a couple hours now and it's a blast. MP most likely won't be added for at least a month but there is no definitive timeline on that. The first update was a pretty significant one so I expect they will be rolling out features pretty quickly.

Hot lapping is actually pretty fun and if you throw some people in the mix that post times it's going to get pretty interesting. Plus people can "race" on their own timeline.

14 cars total right now, but trust me getting to know each one takes a lot longer than a game like Forza or GT. I'm only really comfortable with 3 or 4 for now.

I should note one of the things I love about Assetto Corsa is that it really embodies the "easy to drive, hard to drive fast" mentality. At the same time I've been able to push cars far quicker than most sims just because you have a much better feel for each one.

I haven't worked in a year, but I'm willing to get this simulator once I start working again, I've played the tech demo, and I liked it a lot. I've been messing around with Live for Speed over the past 6 years, and I wouldn't mind something new, other new "simulators" in the past haven't held on to me, and I always returned to LFS. The demo for RFactor (that came with my G25, mind you) made me lose interest after the first lap.

Also, a bit off topic curiosity, are you the same Memphis Raines that converted cars to Midtown Madness 2 a while back?

No I am not him.

Also the Tech Demo was a good taste. I would actually say the game was a bit worse before the first update as the FFB wasn't as good and kerbs didn't even give FFB. They have fixed all that now and I would say it's better than the tech Demo, and you have far more selection.

I hear they added a drift feature? That true? I've been planning on buying a wheel for the PC only because I wanted to get into some sim racing, and this seems like its a game that won't charge me each month (like rFactor or iracing (I can't afford that)), since it is available on steam.

I'm waiting for more news on this and pCARS.

They did, along with "drift packages" for a couple cars. Word of warning, drifting in Assetto Corsa is hard, like finding a needle in a haystack hard. It's like trying to drift a car...in real life. I have no clue how to do it.

I own PCars and it is coming along nicely. If they were to get close to Assetto Corsa physics it would take a LOT of work. They are getting much better though. Pcars will have more cars and will be more "feature complete" it just wont have as good of physics. Sounds are pretty damn good though.

Assetto has one huge thing on their side. Modding. It will bring a large number of tracks and cars created by the community. There is already a decent set of cars in the works, some made by professionals.

I've attached an image of a car model created by someone in the community that will eventually be a Mod for Assetto Corsa. THIS is why Assetto Corsa will be great, along with the physics of course.

I will definetley switch to AC at the point where the first modders make the transition from rFactor.

Okay, I should make my statement more precise: As soon as the modders switched and the game is out of the beta phase.
Nice Cobra Render, is it part of a Classic Mod?

It is just a guy that is making cars as he pleases. He is working on a Mustang as the Cobra is complete other than things he can't do until AC Mod tools get released.

There is one guy on the forums that is doing a Gallardo that does high end work for movie studios. Some of this stuff is beyond impressive.

Your missing out waiting, unless your in rfactor leagues or something that AC doesn't have yet. But at the same time I understand not wanting to try a product until you can experience the entire thing at once.

I had some bad experiences with games being buggy or not as good as they promised (TDU, TDU2, every Fifa, Splinter Cell, HAWX). That's why I always wait for the finished product and want to see a demo. If there isn't one I'll look up some gameplays and ask around if one of my friends have it so I can quickly try it.

That's the reason why I am waiting, although I must say that AC looks very promising and it seems like the developers are enthusiasts as well - EA should take notes.
