Where the hell did you find this? A reverse google search turns up nothing. I can't even find gawker's own versions that usually show up when posted to oppo.
It's fascinating and terrifying though.

You'd think that a military camera person's motto would be the same as everyone else's: "Duck and cover!", with one addition: "...and hold out the camera to get the shot."

The third Japanese bomb hits the flight deck of USS Enterprise during the Battle of the Eastern Solomons, August 24, 1942. The photographer, PhoM3/c Robert Frederick Read, USNR, was killed by the blast.

It's surprisingly easy to get so caught up in the shot that you loose sense of reality.

I'm sure it is. That's why we train, so reactions don't overcome responses.
I'm reminded of that old Bill Cosby routine where he's being asked to "steer into the skid."

It is. I was shooting some photos at a car meet, a guy pulls out and causes an accident. First instinct is to shoot. I only remember the even through my lense and the photos i took because i only saw it with one eye. I was there, and i still dont feel as if i was really there.
