The most recent one I can think of was the CLK GTR(not pictured here, that is a LM which had a V8. . . but who cares), and that was made so that it could race in the late 90s. Has there been a car that has done that recently that I am missing? BTW, I love homologation specials, they are always so crazy!

BMW E46 M3 GTR is my current guess. Made so they could stick it to porsche in the GT series.
But the Porsche GT3 might be considered a homologation model for its racing program now that they use a special version of the flat-6 in it. I'm not 100% sure on that though.

Evos and STis were homologation cars for Group N Rally and a requirement for WRC up until 2004 or 2005. Needed 5000 road going specimens.

Also, ACO rules require homologation of all GT competitors. same with ALMS when it existed. Here were some scandals such as when they allowed the big bore 911s a few years ago that were never homologated for Le Mans and the V8 M3s in ALMS.

When did they make this one?
Or this one?

I dunno if there is anything I love more than homologation specials. What is more awesome than a car that is designed to be a race car first and then only made street legal so that it could race? I can't think of anything.

That M3 GTR was awesome. You're right it only existed to compete in racing.
I think the Porsche GT3 has some notable differences between the production car and the track-only cars. Not 100% sure either.

Me too. Seems like we'll be seeing less and less homologation specials.

Hardly.... The only hung stock cars get these days are stickers that look like the production car. It's not lik th old days where actual stock cars were modified for Track use

They still require a production car for it to be "based" on

That's the best car ever featured in video games right there.

True but you don't see Chevy or Ford purposely selling something like a Ford Taurus with a 500 CI V8 and some practically race track tech just so they can slip it onto the track.

NASCAR doesn't use 500 ci V8s, they are 358's, so the SS actually has a bigger motor.

Rumor has it that the snorkel on the roadgoing version was a fake and was just stuck on the back glass. Can't remember where I heard that so I'm not even going to bother to search if that is true or not.
