By buying this here Disco.

I've been looking for a winter truck for a while now, and so far everything I've found has been a road trip away from me. I'm in Madison, WI and have found trucks I like in Chicago, Milwaukee & Iowa. But none here.

I don't want to make a road trip if I can avoid it, and a Toyota dealer here in Madison is selling this Discovery. It's an '04 SE with the locking differential. I ran the VIN and it's spent its entire life here in Madison, so I called the local Land Rover dealer to get service history.

They said it's been a couple years since they last had it in but confirmed it had been in mostly just for regular maintenance with a couple random things, including hood latch, spark plug wires, some kinda intake gasket & something to do with the door locks.

Toyota dealer is asking $7990 but Edmunds is way down at $3875. Going in tomorrow to check it out. Plus...dat light bar.

Other than dealing with an out-of-state purchase, why would you want to avoid a road trip? Sweet Disco. You're not going to get talked out of it here.

You won't get talked out of it by me, I want one of these! I think personally I'd go for the Disco I. The II's are somewhat more complicated to maintain. I hear if you treat it right a Discovery can be decently reliable, but I do think it will cost you to "treat it right".

Your wallet will be crying when you go to fill it up every other day but besides that, many smiles are to be had!

I had wanted to get this taken care of before Thanksgiving, and my girlfriend, best friend, and other people I asked if they could go on an out of state car retrieval trip with me all had plans going on.

Also with my bank local here in Madison it's easier to deal with cashier's checks and such when it's down the street.

As far as SUV's go, these aren't terrible, it's still bad, but not as bad as it could be, haha.

Time for some input from a former Discovery owner. Buy it, but don't spend more than 5 or 6 grand if you can avoid it. Also, be aware that you're buying a vehicle that is a 26 gallon fuel tank and takes premium gas. And you will love it. And bookmark atlanticbritish.com.

It's not going to be my main vehicle, but I'm already used to paying for the gas for my BMW 135is.

125k miles. Don't know about head gaskets. The service guy at the Land Rover dealer said something about intake gaskets but didn't really specify and I didn't ask him to expand because he seemed kinda like I was wasting his time.

My recommendaion. I live in a city needed a SUV to car bikes/boards and handle legit snow and some beach driving and long highway trips.

I was looking at 03-05 BMW X5, 06' LR3's.

Wound up with a 2 owner (mother daughter) 2003 infiniti QX4 with 80K on the clock. (thats <8K Mi/year)

Why? Well the Infiniti has aged a little but it still looks good. It has the VQ3500 V6 engine from the G35/F35 (so it actually pulls much better on the highway) I had an 99 & 01 when new and they were severely underpowered.

has xenon adjustable highbeams, leather, bose, wood grain dash and wheel, classy clock in the center and laser, laser cruise control and most importantly independent rear suspension with LSD. Also has 2WD, Auto 4x4 (pulled from GTR R34) and locking 4wd hi/lo. Really simply to add hitch or your own skid plates.

Got it for <$8K the insurance is very cheap, nissan parts are cheap and plentiful and their products last. rear springs & shocks are the only thing you have to look out for. I might install supplimental airbag system for rear springs when i load the car cuz the rear can sag a tad.

Other than that its real easy Gas is 15-19 depending on drive and mixture.

Fair warning: if you drive it, you will be leaving with it. I absolutely love the way the DII's drive. Seating position, the visibility, the torques. You might be making a horrible decision, but I support this one. With a 2" lift and slightly bigger all terrain tires, she'd be perfect.
