A 1977 C111 Skyline was !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! this morning. According to the dealer selling it, it's 1 of 3 legal in the state of California. Except it's not legal, and I'm pretty sure there are more than 3 legal Kenmeri's in CA. I ended up arguing with the seller in the comments. Scroll to the bottom to see the exchange.
My favorite quote from the dealer:
In the end of the day, the model year (other than what it says on the title) is speculation. And, the DMV's primary concern is that it collects its use fees and sales tax. So, if it makes you feel better, we will call it a 1974 with possible 1977 components?

76 and newer require smog, I cant find any test history in CA BAR's system:

That's because it's registered as a 1974. That's the issue...at some point the year was recorded as 1974 instead if 1977...

Well, it's 100% illegal unless there is a sticker from a BAR referee somewhere. Vehicles 1975 and older are still subject to smog inspection at the request of a police officer. I could definitely see getting pulled over in that, and then it would get crushed.

Obviously, the problem is that it's in Cali. Bring it out here, where it'll be exempt from smog.
