I got ticketed for doing 61 kph on a 60 zone. The worst part is that they take up to 15 days to mail you the damn ticket, so I should probably expect a couple more of those...

They actually gave you a ticket for ONE FUCKING KPH over the speed limit? I would claim faulty equipment and give them the finger. That's ridiculous.

That's pretty fucking lame. Do they expect your speedometer to be 100% accurate or some shit?

In the U.S., you usually have to be going at least 10 mph over the limit to receive a ticket.

this is only .6 mph over the limit. If some cop tried that shit here I would be on fire. I got popped for 2 over on my bike a few years back. I only caught it because I got mouthy with the cop, asking to see his calibration cert on the gun and saying he was being a dick

Yeah, it's not like passenger cars have certified speedometers.
I think manufacturers are allowed 5% deviation one way or another, which at 60kph would be about 61kph

What is the fine for 2 MPH over? $.50?
I would just go ballistic if that happened to me.

court tossed it, I think it was $125 minimum fine at that time

technically 5 but in michigan the "5 over" speeding ticket is what most cases get bumped down to if you aren't an asshat during the stop. I was in a flow of traffic where we were all doing between 85 and 95 and when we passed over a bridge there were 4 cops chilling on the median.....we were also kinda the only traffic in the road. So when I saw I won the jackpot (lights AND sirens no less) I pulled over immediately since the construction zone was coming up. Clocked at 89mph, cop said they read a bit slow, ticket was for 5 over in a 65+ zone so it is cash fine only, no points on your license.

Are you for serious. 61 in a 60? I though it was bad when I got a 50 in a 40.

WAT/
But AFAIK, they only ticket 5% above. Pics or didn't happen!

As far as I know, speedometers are only allowed to read over, never under. So they tend to be about 5% over to give a little leeway before they become illegal.

lol wow! What was the reasoning the cop gave you for wasting yours and his time? Must have been bored or something...

Yes. In the UK, at least, a speedometer must not under-report the speed by even a tiny amount. That's why all speedos give a slightly high figure.

In the US it is generally accepted that you can got 10mph over before a cop will pull you over. This depends on how bored or fat and lazy they are.

That's roughly the same pretty much everywhere in the world. But still, speedos are only allowed to read high, not low. The speedo itself becomes illegal - like bald tyres or whatever, not murder or some such - as soon as it's under-reading.
Of course, normally no-one would notice unless the under-reporting is significant.

Reminds me of the time I got a ticket for going 33 in a 30.
Your speedo can easily be off by a kph or two as well, that's a load.

I'll see what happened exactly when I get home, it was my sister that called with the news... Also I'm not sure it's the same in otger states, but down here there's a 7kph tolerance, it's not percent based

Being stopped isn't really a thing in Brazil, so there's no one to argue with, unless you can find where the cop was hiding

I'm not really sure about the rules. I know there is a tolerance. It was taught in PR that it was 5km/h on 60 km/h zones and 10km/h on 80km/h zones and above. Something like that. The tolerance is stated on the ticket.

11/22/2013 at 14:47 | 0 |
Yup... With the "tolerance" counted in, it was more like 68 in a 67 zone, but still, a gearshift could have sumbed me one or two kph over...

I'll have to check mine, it may or may not be reading under. I rarely drive the needle over the 65 kph mark on my commute exactly because of this hidden radar bullshit, but the ticket states my measured speed was 68.

I kinda wish we had police stops down here. At least you'd be able to argue that there's no way in hell you can do 60 kph on a 60 kph zone when the traffic is flowing at 80, as it tends to do on some avenues here.
But not, they tuck behind bushings and under bridges with their stupid guns and you're only notified that you got ticketed 15 days later, when it's mailed to your place...

Yep... Just checked the ticked, it says the limit is 60, the real limit is 67, I was clocked at 68 and the considered speed is 61. That's balls, even though I was over the tolerance limit, I could be overtaking someone for all they know. You can't overtake under the speed limit, that's bullshit.
