Kinja'd!!!

I just passed 1000 miles in my FR-S yesterday, also known as the end of the break in period.

Now it will be all fish tails, all the time! Just in time for snow, too

Nice, what color did you get? I've logged over 1000 in my dad's for sure and love it. How have you liked it so far?

Funny how dealerships say first 1k miles are break in period, and over the pond they tell us it's 1000 km.

I bought a Series 10, so it is Ignition Silver, the only color available.

So far it has been a lot of fun, but I've been careful to adhere to the 4k rpm suggestion, even going so far as to set the shift indicator there.

Now I'm ready to go full redline without fear (for as long as the warranty lasts). I've had no real issues, except for the inconsistent idle that I've seen widely reported.

This guideline I pulled from the owner's manual, which was the 1000 miles, 4k rpm. Interestingly enough, the dealer had little in the way of recommendations. They were really just there to sell me the car.

The only person I found there that knew much about the car was the wash & detail guy. It seems like they haven't sold many of these in VT

Not sure how important the break in period is, but I'll surely find out. I went to a track day and there were 2 guys participating with under 500 miles on the odometer.

Time to do all the autocross! Mine had about 1500 when I did my first one. These cars are perfect for that.

Some people even say that is good to do it till the first oil change at around 3-4k km. I think this is a real stretch, but there is some logic behind it.

Well, its pretty much a pre-caution. Chances are nothing will happen if they had their cars at working temperature and the fluids were a-okay.

Those are nice as hell, they had one at the dealer when my dad bought his, but it was an AT, so it was out of the question. You have a lot of fun ahead though, that car is ridiculous. Everything about it makes you feel like you're going seriously fast, when in reality you're not. My only gripe is road noise on the highway.

I'm just not sure I'd want to run the engine that hard on the factory oil fill, think of the particles!! (I'm pretty excessive though with 4 oil changes so far on my car in 9000 miles)
