I'm looking for something to base a writing assignment for my 8th graders on. Any ideas for SFW!!!!! web comics, or even non-web comics that I can find online. The language in Calvin and Hobbes is a little too sophisticated, the simpler the better. Also, bonus points for anything related to boats. Have some Bandit bait in return, oh and didn't our birthday kid demand Murrican muscle?

Dinosaur comics. Although you may end up thinking the language is too sophisticated. Also Toothpaste for Dinner, and Married to the Sea.
