To find a modern production "retro" car that doesn't look good in some way. There are/have been a ton of retro inspired cars that have come along in the last 15 years, I think most of them look pretty darn nice in some aspect. All cars are open to the challenge except the PT Cruiser (it is truly terrible and the worst car I have ever been in).

The mid-2000s Ford Thunderbird. Buckets of 'meh,' in my opinion.

Chevy HHR. because GM wanted a PT Cruiser.

But it did look sleek and nothing like the other meh cars of the time (I'm looking at you Toyota). Also, as shameful as it was for him, James Bond drove one in a movie.

I'm not going to defend the PT Loser BUT it was the first to successfully pull off the retro style and millions of those things were sold. When they were first introduced, for a short while they were THE car, despite their shortcomings. It was successful enough that Ford and GM later introduced their own retro cars. If there was a single major failure with the PT, it was that it failed in subsequent updates due to the financial pickle that Chrysler found themselves in in the early 2000's. They fell behind the curve of a segment that for the most part, they created.

Ahh, yes, the HHR. A truly ugly car. Sadly though, I find your point rather invalid as you could get a HHR SS that packed (to paste a Wikipedia page)

"2.0 L (120 cu in) turbocharged Ecotec LNF I4 engine and intercooler that produces 260 bhp (190 kW) (235 bhp (175 kW) with the optional 4-speed automatic), race-tuned high-performance suspension, five-speed manual transmission with short-throw shifter, standard four-wheel antilock disc brakes, ground effects with unique front and rear fascias, aggressive black cross-mesh grille, liftgate-mounted aero spoiler, an analog A-pillar-mounted titanium boost gauge, leather-wrapped steering wheel with mounted audio controls, and unique 18 in (460 mm) high-polished aluminum wheels."

Objection! Halle Berry's character rolled up to some party in one. Bond had that appalling 'it's invisible' Aston Martin.

The retro trend was started by the New Beetle (launched in '97, based off of a concept from '94) not the PT Cruiser, which happened three years later :p

Nope, it's an official Subaru product. Subaru built 5,000 of them between 1999 and 2000. More info can be found here .

Incidentally, the Casa Blanca wasn't the only retro model that Subaru built around that time. There were two other models. However, the Casa Blanca turned out the worst.

The all-new $250,000 Equus Bass 770.

This is designed to be a hodgepodge of Mustangs, Challengers and Chargers, and while some may say it can pull it off, some angles are just fugly.

Hm, I'm the opposite—I like the Daniel Craig reboot because it eschewed the ridiculous gadgets. To each their own. Even so, "Casino Royale" pissed me off by wrecking the DBS after like fifteen seconds of driving it—then I get my awesome car chase fix in the opening five minutes of "Quantum of Solace," but I was less invested for the rest of the movie because I knew nothing would top it for pure, unadulterated awesome.

I've driven one as a test drive for one of my aunties.

They're surprisingly good fun. Decent feel in the steering, and an old-school 'rattlebox' type feel to them. Interior's great as well.

Auto gearbox isn't great though, and not just because it's an auto. It's livable, but it's not one of its positives.
