"Axel-Ripper" (Axel-Ripper)

Wow. One of the harder Tool songs, as performed by middle schoolers (at a music school). Absolute perfection. Kudos to the drummer and the bassist. Randomly jumping to the top of the neck in the middle of a rif (usually a sign you're getting bored) in the middle of a bass driven song. Again, wow.

besides the drum solo, its a pretty easy song to play. At least its TOOL and not some type of Disney Rock

I'll refrain from going music major on them and say it was a damned good effort!
These kids have a lot of good technicals. The bassist caught my attention the most (probably because of my preferences but w/evs); the rest of them, well, it almost sounded forced. My only complaint. Nothing but the bass, and at times the drums, flowed.

True, but as a bassist I see it as being more difficult than some of their stuff. Agreed though, its not quite the timing midfuck that is The Pot (to stay on surface level Tool).

Thanks for sharing. Because I wasn't questioning enough of my life choices.

Same thing with me on the bass. But for the age some of these kids are, they've got a pretty good footing on their respective instruments.

It's tough to understand the "feel" in music at 13 or 14, especially when you're in the kind of environment that this looks like, that being one that's pushing their technical skills more than anything. With time and opportunities to play in less rehearsed/structured/set up environs, the kids have the chops to be good musicians.
I will give you that I grew up playing with a lot of people that had the chops when we were 15, though, and most of them don't make nearly the same quality of music today as those who had feel down at the point.

It DID sound forced, but it's a rather remarkable thing nonetheless... they are young, they can learn. so colour me impressed :)

repetition wise yes. True that on The Pot. Aenima also a bit tricky but all in all not too bad (also a bassist). But then again, this isn't really my style. Jam on brotha \m/

You're most likely right. I grew up in a place where my talents were acknowledged, nurtured and allowed to grow at their own pace (which to say was rather rapid). I definitely had the feel and flow down, but didn't reach the technical level of some of these kids until I was in high school probably.

These kids are great. The drummer's got talent - he may have been overselling it a bit at parts, but he's got it going on.
I was reminded of this: Untrust Us by Crystal Castles, a cappella by the Capital Children's choir:
