Find an X/S-Runner if you want a street truck.

Full disclosure: I drive a Tacoma and am seriously biased.

Tacoma is more expensive up front, but will have lower operating costs and will hold its value better than just about any other used vehicle anywhere.

That engine is a massive pile of shit. Saddening, really, considering its roots.

Elaborate? I've heard a few complaints but from what I've seen, most saw it as a decent powerplant....

They've been known to chew through heads and valve springs like candy. They're underpowered for what the pickup weighs, and trying to haul or tow any measurable amount magnifies this issue.

I'm biased. I love the 4200. It was one hell of an engine. I was selling GMC products when this came out and, despite GM PR's best attempts to hide it, driving the things proved what a waste of R&D it was. They had the room, they should've stuck the 4200 in there and called it a day.
