It's the Steyr-Puch Haflinger. Not German (exactly), not VW, not MB as such, but astoundingly capable and a groovy little trailmonkey. Andy McBratlie got it when I pointed out the cylinder count. Dump after the Jump.

I had a Puch too!
It was a moped though. A rusty, 25 year old clapped out white Puch Maxi which I put 4000 kms on in a single summer. 90 kilometers a day. It never missed a beat.

I'd really like one of these in the collection. The very essence of a light 4wd. At 1300lb, this thing could go places any other vehicle would cause a landslide, and slip through the woods like nobody's business.
I mean, we're talking about a 4wd smaller and lighter than a Beetle.

More small 4wd (or awd, or whatever it is) are available at that weight. The Suzuki LJ10 for example

Yeah, but I really like the Haflinger over most kei 4wds. Better use of space, more of a military look, and more designed for a full size person.
