Aside from a few curb scrapes, this is entirely aluminum rot that's formed underneath the painted surface of the wheels. It isn't worth fixing when I could just buy better (lighter, slightly wider) wheels for a little more.

... and why do you suppose it's not so "rotten" in the centre? Those few curb scrapes have chipped and/or scratched the clearcoat, allowing moisture, oxygen, dirt, etc. between the clearcoat and the aluminum, causing the "rot".

The scrapes are only on the spokes, just before they meet the rim of the wheel. That part sticks out farther than the tires do (it's a shitty design). The real reason why it's not rotten in the center is that I live in Minnesota where the tires are subject to rain and during the (long) winter, salty slush and snow, of which it's endured for 13 years now. Guess what part of the wheel is closest to the tires? I've owned the car since new in 2000, and I've watched as the rot developed around the entire rim. It never started at the spokes that got curbed. Sure, curbing them only makes it worse, as you can see by the way the rot creeps inward down the spokes slightly, but they haven't been curbed in at least 7 years. Try not to jump to "user error" conclusions so quickly. You can make conjectures from behind your computer screen, but until you know the whole story you can't be sure you're right.

Ah yes, I thought so. Just didn't want to be wrong and look like an idiot. Either way, excellent choice, it is probably the best wheel for the buck and then some.
