After leaving the dealership and telling them that a four year old could change the air filter on my Soul (so I certainly wasn't going to pay them $35 to do it) I decided it was time to take the plunge and get something that would, with any luck, pay for itself before I get rid of the car.

Kinja'd!!!

Initial reaction this morning was that I either got much better at feathering the throttle overnight, or this thing helps a little at lower RPMs. Could be me driving better because I think it makes my car better too, but I'm reasonably happy. It's a little more willing to hang out in second gear at low speeds without complaining, and pulls up from the lower RPM's a little faster.

Too early to see if it helps fuel economy, but I'm gonna take a guess at "no." Besides, even if the "MPG Avg" in the dash said it was helping, that bloody thing is usually off by 3-4 MPG all the time anyway.

Now... If I put the K&N sticker on my back window, does that make me a tool?

A tool with at least a 3hp sticker increase.

Put the K&N sticker somewhere nondescript. I've got mind on the windshield below the wiper, right above the intake. It's not really visible until you walk up to the car.

The K&N sticker is on my airbox in case some moron tech goes to replace it with a paper filter without asking.

I know a few... I mean, two clips, slide the top off, and grab the old filter.

Didn't even have to unhook the plenum like on my old neon.

well, that IS legitimate, especially considering you intend to sell the vehicle.

I would stick he additional sticker somewhere more humerous, perhaps on a child's power wheels? or on some ruster junker you've been asking your neighbor to get out of the street since its tyres went flat 2 months ago.

Well, yeah they give you two now: one for the moron tech, and then one for your window or whatever.

I put the one on the box right away, and can't wait to get in an argument with my dealer about it. The window one I'm holding off on for now.

Plus the filter adds 10HP, and my wheels are lighter, so they add at least 10 too.

Man, all I need is some Hoonigan stuff and I'll be at 200HP in no time.

Half right. I'm going with "hell no" :)

Be advised, however, that when you put the K&N stop sign sticker on your car, it's there for good... unless you want to scrape it off. I tried picking mine off with fingernails, and it ain't happening.

I put mine on the side of my computer case, along with all the other upgrades I've done to my cars.

Looks better there than on the bumper of the car.

A hair dryer should do the trick in most cases. No promises though.

I had a K&N filter on my last car, and nobody ever hassled me over it. 9 times out of 10 they would just say, "We left the K&N filter alone."

I would leave the other sticker off the car, put it on a toolbox or something, but that's just me. I actually have a bag full of free car stickers I've accumulated over the years, I don't know what I'll do with them. Probably garbage some day.
