....what motoring issue would you give an instant 5 years in the pen for?
People suck at driving, that will never change. All of us here have pet peeves that just get under our skin while we are on our daily commute. Given than, how many of you ever thought, "man, if I was in 'the law' and I see a motorist (various idiot driver scenario), they should be an instant 5 years"
For me, it's the easily repairable and avoidable lighting issues. Things like...
The doucher that knows he has a low beam out but continues to drive either with the high beams on or with only 1 low beam.
Bro trucks lifted or lowed on 28" chrome flea market wheels with those stupid ass 6000k HID headlamps and fog lights, ugh!
The drivers that have do have headlights but no tail lamps
Tinted tail lamps (almost always Infiniti G coupes lol)
Brake lights! 1 or none!
and many various lighting issues are my main point for this imaginary (instant 5 years penalty)
What specific motorist issue will you enforce this completely unfair and illogical punishment?

Brake checkers. Hate that shit.

No signaling a turn.
Failure to advance to your turn in a circle.

5 years is very hefty!
Definitely drivers that put state law for turn signal use (or any other similar sign) on their rear window. But at the same time they tail gate, speed and pass on the right. (I see a douche-bag much like this on my morning commute sometimes).

5 years in da clink for the person that changed lanes right when I was merging onto the freeway. And everyone who doesn't understand merging and how two objects can never occupy the same physical space.

DUI - It'd be more than most get.

Maybe not 5 years but instantly fine the crap out of:
1: Left lane hogs (I by far don't drive fast, normally the speed limit or 5 over, but I still constantly see people in the left lane going 10-15 under the posted limit holing up traffic)
2: Tailgaters tailgating in the right lanes. Look broseph, I am in the right (and by right I mean proper) lane moving at or around the speed limit. There is ZERO reason for you to be so far up my ass that I can not see the front half of your car in any of my mirrors. If you want to pass me the left lane is open, otherwise, back off.
3: People who drive two foot. If you've been driving for a mile and your brake lights have been on the WHOLE time, get your left off the pedal.

I like that the tailgating comment is directly below the comment about break checkers.

If the brake check wasn't caused by you excessively tailgating, then yes, it's obnoxious. I've had it happen where traffic just flowed such that I had to be one someone's ass for a bit and when they feel the need to brake check me, I start fuming with rage. At which point I tell myself over and over, stay calm, it won't help to be angry.

I agree. I definitely think DUI needs to have a harsher punishment.

I should've been more clear (and I'm not trying to sound like an ass here). I hate when traffic is flwoing and he just hits brakes. No tailgaiting involved. It is reasonable if you drive like an ass right on him bumper, but thats it.

Assertive maneuvers by people in large trucks/suvs/cadillacs
Each offense the max gross weight of their vehicle license is restricted by 500 lbs.
Till they're all driving smart cars and realizing what jerks they've been. The ones who pull parts off the chassis to comply, well, they're cool. They just need to switch to a different coffee.

Non-functioning trailer lights... Check that shit every time you hook-up!
Grossly overloaded vehicles...
Texting while driving...
DUI; not MADD-defined DUI but actual DUI... If you don't know what I mean, don't bother commenting. If you are a zero tolerance advocate; see previous statement...

Yup. Came here to post this. These is no reason to drink and drive and its totally within your control. Given the well documented consequences, this should be an instant and harsh penalty.

i have cars and trucks. When im in my little e36 for example, i know exactly where you are coming from with that. Its so stupid seeing these dumbasses swerving through lanes without any common sense in their giant truck. Yet, if im in my truck especially towing my trailer, there are plenty of little cars that expect my truck to brake as easy as their little car. Not simple when im hailing 8000 lbs worth of gear. I keep my distance but they cut in anyway.

An automatic 5 years would certainly make people think about it.

Seriously though, The judicial system is broken. You get more time in jail if you're caught hacking a computer, than killing a person. I think a harsher DUI penalty will most certainly discourage people from doing it. Get caught in a DUI, you start making licence plates.
