The best man for the job - Michael Krumm. He's German, has raced for Nissan for 15 years, speaks Japanese, and can talk his way around the lap in English while perfectly pronouncing the corner names. Also, he's very very very fast.

And if you have 26 minutes or so, here's the development story:

That's fast!

Someone should make a scatterplot of laptime versus MSRP. I suspect the GTR would be an outlier.

Maybe I'll do it someday.

Krumm is a really good driver. I hope that Nissan will hold on to him for a possible Le Mans entry. And I heard rumours that Nissan also might enter the Nürburgring 24 2014 with 2 works GT-R GT3 cars.

Viper ACR and Radical SR8 still win.

The Outliers are "prestigious" cars like the 458, LFA, Zonda, and Enzo. If you put time on the X axis and price on hte Y axis, I imagine the scatterplot would slide upward very quickly before getting all fuzzy (but still rising) until you reached about the 7:20 mark, and then it would level out around the $100,000-$200,000 range.

A few weeks back, I got into an argument on the FP about how Nissan could get a sub-7 minute time if they really applied themselves and didn't worry about trying to sell the cars, but that a realistic GT-R Nismo, with the power (I figured it would be closer to 620-650 actually) and weight (which I suspect is lower than I thought it would be) that was estimated would come in at a high 7:07 or a low 7:08. I feel all warm and fuzzy inside for guessing right.

BRB, learning Japanese.

That's a pretty impressive lap, especially once you factor in that he didn't get the optimum out of some wee bits of the track.

Also, did he mention 600 hp for the Nismo? Nice.
