My wife and I hate car shopping. We drove a Fiat 500 Abarth and it was a brilliant little car but had two issues — 1. I barely fit inside. Like I was more comfortable with my head coming through the sunroof. 2. It was about $4000 over our maximum budget, considering both of us have some credit issues (mine from not having borrowed money since 2002, and hers from a messy divorce).
The payments would have been too much to bear. But, oh... that sound and fury. Friday we drove a blue Pop with an auto and it just felt... cheap. It didn't feel right. It was cute, sure, but the way the engine buzzed and struggled to keep it moving didn't feel right for a car that was a year old. It felt like my cousin's late 80s Colt hatchback. The handling was good and it felt nimble, but it felt dangerously slow.
Anyway, after searching and running around quite a bit, we found this gem at a small dealer. It's an 07 Passat 2.0T wagon with the Lux package (better stereo, leather, sunroof, power seats, and chrome stuff in and out) and so far it's wonderful. The FSI pulls hard and makes no unusual noises. No warning lights, and this place carries a decent warranty, too. It's got a few miles on it but it's got new struts up front, new brake pads, rotors, and calipers in front and new pads in the back. It's that metallic black on black. Next step is to tint the windows as dark as we can go without attracting undue attention.
Have a picture:

sweet. Those B6's are not too shabby. Just make sure that Lux pkg doesnt come with xenon headlights. those you have to pull the front bumper and grille off to change. $500 at the dealer

I'm trembling just thinking about the maintenance costs of owning this car.

Standard Halogen Projectors here. I think those came with the Tech package and the 3.6 cars.

Welcome to the dark side. Your training is almost complete.
Beautiful car by the way.

More than a Camry, but less than a Saab.

my roommate has the sedan version of this car and it has been the biggest pain in the ass of any car I have ever worked on.
Just wait until you try to do an oil change yourself. Unless you have a really nice tool set you will probably be going to the hardware store.
Brake jobs require a special cable and a computer.
They do drive pretty nice though, and the 2.0 packs a hefty punch for its size.

Brake job is hopefully a non-issue. New pads, calipers, and rotors on the front and new pads on the back. The car drives like it's hewn from marble. It's tighter than any Volvo I've driven and about as solid as my brother-in-law's '11 3-series

From one VW owner to another, I say Welcome to the Family. I have a Mk5 Jetta myself (Same body style as your Passat). I'd also remove the chrome grill and plastidip it black (or get a new grill). The 2.0T is a good engine, if you turn up the boost you can have a little bit more fun too.
Enjoy it.
