I've talk with the owner via BBM. And he's really honest guy. He told me that the radiator is broken, the gearbox might be broken soon, and he also admit that he loves driving that Alpina like it was stolen, altough since he bought an E30 3-Series, he stops drive that Alpina.
He said it's an original Alpina B12 6.0, with a certificate to prove it. The Purple paint was a special job because he thinks a blue alpina is too mainstream. And he urges me to check the car if i really interested. And oh, bring a bottle of water, just in case the radiator blows up again.
So, an E38 Alpina B12 6.0 with broken radiator and almost broken gearbox and 55k stolen driving on the clock, for 7k USD. Worth it?

Worth it, simply because it's a glorious and rare car. Some broken bits are easily fixed ... and depending on what you want from a car, this kind of ... "rough upbringing" might actually be alright.
//edit: That looks like a LWB version, too?

yes, i was thinking the same.
Altough if i bought that thing, it'll sit in my garage until next month when i got my paycheck to start rebuilding it.

It's already a maintenance nightmare, and will continue to be. As tempting as the price is, I would stay away.

Buy it. Dammit if malaysian don't have any stupid per-cc roadtax system, I will buy one of those (a normal E38). Urgh I'm clearly jealous

Just make sure it's a genuine car and not a beaten-on replica. As for the repair costs, it's a matter of preservation - you would be keeping a rare vehicle whose species is dying out on the road.

For the love of all things holy..BUY!

That's not really long now, or is it? I bet there's project cars that sit for years.
Ask him for a drive. :D

ya, that's what my brain says.
But my heart is on that thing already.

Well, i think if it's a replica then it would be a massive crackpipe.

Nah, we don't have those.
In fact that thing only paid 350 bucks for road tax per year. Which is a bargain, considering My previous W140 get a quite hefty 700 bucks.

Yes!
that's what my heart says!
Altough my brain said no.

yes, quite long.
Of course :D
And he said bring a bottle of water, just in case the radiator gonee wonky again.

Beware the cooling system. If he says the radiator is shot, the water pump, hoses, thermostat, et al are not far behind. I learned the hard way that their plastic cooling system components suck.

Dang That's kinda cheap. One of those V12 E38 in Malaysia. $2100 plus insurances
![]() 11/16/2013 at 12:50 |

Of course. But it's a decent price for a complete (and theoretically rust-free) genuine car. V12 repairs are scary, but even with aggressive driving, a well-maintained engine should be able to handle a lot.
It all depends, I guess.

That's a beautiful car. Radiator and trans aren't the worst things to fix on a Bimmer.
Besides there's $7k worth of parts there, you can't go wrong even if something unfixable blows up on you.

Buy it that car is glorious. But get the price down a little more and you'll appreciate the extra cash for new parts.

Just put a new radiator in there ... how expensive can that be, I wonder?
![]() 11/16/2013 at 13:19 |

If you're good with tools or have access to a cheap mechanic, go for it.
![]() 11/16/2013 at 13:26 |

Wait, insurances?
That's interesting. There's no such thing called insurance in here.

Whenever there's a cooling system failure, I wonder how long the engine ran when overheated and what that may have done to it.
