Ugh, it's just one thing after another this week with my brakes. I got backed into by a co-worker on tuesday. Damage was minimal so I didn't think much of it. Went shopping, went home that night. Went to work wednesday morning and near work the brake pedal felt a bit off. Then I hear a clicking noise as I apply the brakes outside of my work. Parked and found one of my caliper bolts had fallen out.
So I take it to a shop to get it looked at. On the way to the shop, I was driving very slowly and carefully after resetting the brakes (feel was normal) but then a very confused old lady in an impala almost crashed into me twice and forced me to slam on my brakes to avoid crunching into a parked camry. I'm pretty sure this is where I lost my guide pin......
So I need help. I need a front guide pin for a 1998 Jetta GL that has the "Girling 54" front caliper. It looks like the following. That is an assembly on ebay for 30$ and will be here in a few days, but I don't want to wait a few days after paying 30$+ for what is essentially a 5$ part. The TRW part provided for the "replacement" is the wrong size and sites like autozone all seem to think I HAVE to have the ATE caliper.
EDIT: Autozone, Advance Auto, NAPA, RockAuto, Amazon, Ebay, and all the rest have the wrong guide pin listed. I need either an alternative part to search for or if someone has an extra/know a site that sells used hardware like this. It is a Girling 54 front caliper and I think most german companies used it on one or two cars at one point or another.

Do you have the part number? For something that small, you could try your local VW dealer, because even if they mark it up by 50%, that's still only going to be an extra couple of dollars.

Is this what you are looking for?
You could also probably try a junkyard or something.

Nope, those other bolts are for rear discs. I am currently without a car and the nearest junkyard is a ways away. I'm asking friends for a ride but this weekend is apparently "everyone leave town" weekend so it's looking rough

+1 on the VW dealer, it might cost 5 bucks but it's a lot easier. I've had awful luck with brake slider pins on all of my cars. My Jetta one siezed so badly that it bent the slider pin 30 degrees.

They won't sell it individually. They sell the entire carrier like the one I pictured for 60-80$ if they have it.

Nope, they only sell a carrier like the one on ebay and at the dealer it is upwards of 60$ and they need it shipped in.

Seriously? That's useless. Is that VW policy, or just your local dealership refusing to order it for you?
I've been impressed with just how small a part my local BMW dealer will order in and have the next day - down to individual plastic clips and stuff.

Sounds like the norm from my experiences on forums right now. It doesn't help the "local" VW dealer is just an "import" dealer so he does VW, some Audi, volvo, and something else too but I forgot what. I can call the actual VW dealer and see if they can ship it if they do.

RockAuto or NAPA.

Nope. Tried already. They only list the ATE caliper parts. They look WAY different.

It's always seems to be that way, any time your car needs some mending no ones around.
It also says front, which is a bit weird. Rockauto is usually one of the first places I look, as long as you know exactly what your looking for the prices are pretty good.
Amazon.com actually has a pretty large selection of auto parts, you may be able to find it there. And if you have prime free 2 day shipping (depending on the seller).
Also as a few others said, if you can find the part number makes finding the right one much much easier.
Good luck with the search.

Is this it? They don't indicate if it is front or rear, but it looks like the one you posted pics of. If it is the right one, googling "14220 guide pin" shows it available in a lot of places online.

It is definitely the rear and it is longer and thinner than the front caliper pins.

Try to cross reference to a Passat or another model

My brother probably has one, I have Girling 54's on my car, and he has another set.
