"What are we doing to appeal to the 50 million car enthusiasts in America?""
Mr. Dial... I don't know. Not much, other than hosting auto racing at your facility.
My suggestions are simple and easy to implement. First, hire folks who are dyed in the wool gearheads and racing fans. Secondly, resources like Jalopnik and Top Gear, (yes, I did just conflate those two) can be partners to help equate your brand with automobiles and automobile racing, NOT as an "ultra-lounge" weekend destination. Thirdly, loosen up. You guys remind me of what Cameron Fry's dad must've been like. If you don't get the reference, that's probably part of the problem.
At present, it would seem few on the COTA staff are oil-stained car nuts who understand the culture and can relate to the people. The current staff, I'm afraid to say, just don't get it. They won't lower themselves to that level, or at least that's the attitude that comes across. Your social media this weekend has been a vast improvement, but until that kind of enthusiasm is a component of your policies you will continue to alienate your audience.
We're here. There are many of us. Enthusiastically provide us with a product we're overjoyed to pay for. How hard could it be?

I agree with paragraph 3. They need to find the best talent for the job. That talent must have a pedigree in whatever field they work in and they also must have a strong love of motorsports. Then the cream will rise to the top. You can't appeal to the motorsports enthusiasts if you haven't a clue about what they are like.

All I'm gonna say is checked out the resumes of their staff on LinkedIn. I'm not saying I'm bitter or anything, but I know many seasoned, connected, hard working communications and PR pros in the ATX area who are also car/racing freaks.

I feel when I go to COTA there is a halfhearted attempt to make it great. It wouldn't surprise me that many on the payroll are just there for a paycheck.
