The MGB was a roadster and the platform later spawned the MGB GT hatchback, MGC (inline-6 power) and finally MGB GT V8....but it took the Wizard of Oz with a garage to swap a Buick 3800 V6 into a lime green MGB GT.

Is it correct to call the classic 2-seater from Morris Garage an MG MGB or an MGB? What about the MGB GT or is it an MG MGB GT? The MG nomenclature confuses me. Regardless, this MGB GT is covered in a toxic shade of neon green and rides low on some aftermarket wheels. All of the bright-work has been painted black and it actually doesn't look that bad. There is one pic of the car with a set of black wheels, but it looks much better in the mid-80s Celica look-a-like wheels.

Power is provided by a GM 3.8 liter series II V6 from either a Camaro or Firebird based on the longitudinal setup. The engine is commonly called the Buick 3800 V6 or the Buick Fireball V6 and in L36 spec it should be good for 200 horsepower and 225 ft-lbs of torque stock. This one is modified and should put out something closer to 230 horsepower and is mated to a Borg-Warner T-5 manual transmission.

This T-5 is shifted by the worlds largest shift lever - it looks like a gentleman's walking stick is poking through the floor. The seats are salvaged from a Mazda MX-5 and the inside is cooled with an aftermarket vintage air AC system.

I'd take a different color, but I like it.

When it says MGBuick... I was hoping that it was a Buick-derived Rover 3.5-4.0 V8, rather than a 3.8 V6.

The green is eye-searing.

Too much tweed-looking fabric in the interior.

But I still like it. Monochrome with black trim looks good on this car.

The A60 Supra wheels look absolutely fantastic on this car.

The only thing perhaps better than this...

A Triumph GT6 with a Supra or Lexus JZ-GE (yes, even just an atmospheric version), black trim, and these Supra wheels...

Although, since GT6 is Right-side intake, left-side exhaust... maybe it should get a Nissan RB I6... Toyota 7M and JZ-family are right side exhaust, left-side intake.

I wonder how much the GM V6 weighs. One of the benefits of the Rover/Buick V8 is that it doesn't weigh all that much more than the cast iron I4, but I haven't got the foggiest about the V6. 230bhp in one of these is nothing to be sniffed at either way.

That green and the low is definitely not to my tastes, but those Celica alloys look great.

I'm with you on the Rover/Buick V8, and the eye-searing Green.

Swapping a more modern engine into a GT6 is something I've done a bit of research into. Stock, they've got a weight distribution pretty close to 50/50, but that's with the dinky Triumph I6 (about 180kg fully dressed). The Turbo'd 2JZ-GTE weighs a good 269kg fully dressed (the NA will be less, but not appreciably so), while also being double the size*. The same goes for the 273kg RB26DETT.

While it'd be awesome, it'd be an utter ballache trying to get the balance back into the chassis.

However, the BMW M54B30 is within an inch of the Triumph I6 in every dimension, and weighs around 170kg (I think, it's very difficult to find engine weights for fully dressed Bimmer engines).

*it occurs to me now that you might mean the earlier Toyota JZ engine.

~400 lbs/~180 kg, contemporary reports peg a fully dressed Rover V8 at 220kgs, so full dressed I'd expect the 3800 to actually be a touch lighter, surprising given that it's all cast-iron.

I've seen varying reports for the RV8. Some put it as low as 144kg (hard to believe), and others around the 170kg mark. I haven't seen 220kg, but that's not to say it isn't right.

180kg is surprisingly light for a cast iron 3.8l. The venerable (and all-alloy) 8v Arese is 170kg, and the biggest I've known that to be punched out to is 3.8l.

It's still within the realms of possibility though.

Source I found had that same discussion on the RV8 suggesting that 144 was completely impossible and that 220 was the weight fully dressed; I'd say 180 sounds most reasonable.

Yeah, I did think 144 was ludicrously light for something that can be punched out to 5.2l.

Slightly off-topic, but I'd love to have seen MG or Rover compete in Trans Am with a 5.0l version of the RV8 (although I'm not sure if they owned the rights to it at the right time). Something like a coupe version of the P6 would be ideal.

Honestly, BL seems to be a magnet for the world's missed opportunities.
