Oh, that's nothing. They're going for nearly 30 million in South Korea (a little over $28k US).

Well, Japan taxes big engines, but what's Korea's problem? Or is it Ford trying to present itself as a premium brand in Asia? That's not gonna work.

Actually the correct price in Japan is ¥2.930,000($29.253), I rounded it up, he rounded it down, and that's where the two grand difference comes from.

A lot of American brand cars are more expensive in Japan.

They want about $18,857 for a base model Chevrolet Sonic, and the Sonic in their market is Korean built, not US built. That's around $4,700 more than a US built Sonic in the US.

$35,810 for a base Captiva (just under $1,200 more than in Germany, for example), and $43,407 for a V6 Camaro (LT trim level, about $18k more than in the US.)

Or $140+k for a Camaro 2SS in Portugal.

Almost $30k for a Focus versus almost over (how much over?) $40k for an Explorer seems like a relatively small difference. In the Netherlands you can get a Focus hatch for $24k (after taxes) while the Kuga (your Escape) starts at $44k. We don't get the Explorer or Mustang through regular channels, they're gray market only.

Versus $16.310, that's the 'murican starting price of a Focus. The Mustang starts from $22.200 vs $40.000 in Japan, and I'm not expecting it to be cheaper than €30.000 when they will start selling it in the EU. The more time that passes over the One Ford , thing, the more price differences appear.

Yeah, but the Fords look good, and drive pretty good and the Sonic and Captiva/Equinox are pretty damn awful. "Sony can build a dozen smartphones with the exposed plastic around the headlights"-that's what the Japanese buyers would say. So instead of presenting itself to the Japanese, as an aspirational brand, Chevy will end up being seen as a seller of overpriced crap, and I'm afraid that not even the new Corvette won't be able clean up that image.

It's not a One Ford problem though. The Focus starts at €13.3k here, before taxes. That's less than $18k, so about $1.5k more than the US Focus. Not that large a difference I'd say.

Yeah, in the states that tax emissions and not displacement, unlike Japan and others. And like I said, I suspect that Ford(and Chevrolet) are charging a little extra for exclusivity, as American cars are still pretty rare in Japan.
