Oppo- I wanted to let everyone know to carefully monitor your pressures if you're using them (video below), as i used one today and it took my PSI from 29 (2 lbs low) to 15 (way fucking low) before i realized it. I always check when usign them, as i dont trust the pressure gauge, i just never expected it to go down isntead of up. I went in to see if the gas station had a backup, and the response was "it's free air, we can let you use a phone to call a tow truck". Naturally, this really pissed me off so i cursed under my breath and walked out. When I was trying to figure out if i could make it out or not on 15 psi, an employee came out, put an out of order sign on the pump. Overall, fuck these things and that gas station. Its defintiely worth it to pay the $.50 for a standard air compressor at a different station (Or, if you live in a house and not an apartment, use the one in your garage).

But newer is always better.
I remember using this type. I'd think to myself how awful it was to have to turn and look at the numbers. Shear hell.
Edit: Actually...I vaguely remember they were automatic too. Long time ago though.

I had a similar thing happen to me but I caught it on the first tyre, the teenage Service Station attended was sympathetic but ultimately unhelpful.
I was about to swap over to the spare when a Land Cruiser pulled up looking like it had just been off roading. He had a compressor. I still got free air and the Land Cruiser owner got smug justification for all the off roading gear he doesn't get to use often enough.

I used one of those... once...
It dumped my pressure down to 20psi, when I was asking for 34... I was going mountain biking, and had a bike pump in the car (one of the big floor pumps), so I pumped my front tires back up to pressure using that. What a workout!

What is this thing?

These things suck. I was leaving work one day when I noticed one of my tires was low @12psi. Being that it was @20F out I really wasn't into changing a tire outside. So i headed to closest gas station. They charged me $1.00 and the stupid thing took 3 minutes to inflate.
But it did automatically shut off once it hit 35. {sarcasm}

You know what's weird? I remember using this at a gas station filling up my bicycle tires when I was younger. Late 90's early 2000's. I loved how simple it used to be. The pic that OP posted confused the shit out of me when I needed air at some remote place in upstate NY

I always keep a "foot actuated" pump in my trunk just in case. They are like $12 and weigh (probably) less than 2lbs/1kg. They may take time but have saved me a few times from crap like this.

Everyone should have a small, 12 volt tire inflator kit in their car's trunk, like this.
I use mine all the time to top off my tire pressure. I have not used the Slime tire sealant yet, has anyone else here used it in a road tire?

Never on a road tire... but it worked like a charm on my lawn tractor.

Eco Tireflators were first rate. Too bad you apparently can't say that about the modern digital ones.

I've got a slightly different model in the trunk of my car, and the question I have is this: who in his right mind thinks "Slime" is a good brand name for any product? Also, be aware that if your battery is a little sub-par you can drain it to the point where it will no longer start your car by inflating your tires with one of those. This happened to me. Fortunately I also have jumper cables in the trunk. Consider keeping your engine running while using yours.

This! In my husbands Solstice this is all you get. We got lucky the last time he got a flat, I was able to bring him one of the spare wheels to get home with. I love those cigarette lighter plug powered compressors, it was a "must have" on track days. So I just keep it in my car now, has helped me limp to the tire shop more than once.

Filling a tire 5 psi from 15 to 20 psi on one of these isn't bad.
The time it takes to fill the same tire from 55 to 60 psi can be accurately measured with a sundial.

Buy a half-way decent bicycle pump.....I have one of those 12 v compressors, but the bike pump is faster if you are only 2 or 3 pounds low.
