Crashed my bike and landed awkwardly. Knee bent sideways. Currently awaiting surgery. Looks like they are going to put a bunch of metal in my leg. I'll post more later when I'm on less drugs.

Holy fuck! I am soooo sorry to hear that.
As a semi-random internet stranger who lives in the same city, let me know if there is anything I can do to help. (Guess this solves the handicap parking situation? - GC235 trying to look on the bright side of every situation since 1975 )

Ouch, sorry to hear that man, hope you get better soon. My old man had a similar accident in the 70's, and he healed up alright, so you should be good once the surgery fully sets in. I mean, the 70's. In Brazil. Medical technology was still in medieval standards.

Have fun going through the metal detectors at the airport.
SR20 on the surgery. And be sure to ask for the codeine.
Best wishes.

DAG YO! that sucks. Sorry to hear that, hope you get better soon. I was wondering where you went. I posted some pics and video on my Moab trip and I was going to post my bike video today...but I might not, out of respect or something.

Heal up good dude. Scars tell stories, not necessarily of enlightened behavior, but a story just the same.
More importantly glad the outcome wasn't any worse (#twowheelsbad can get really, really bad... still hasn't stopped me entirely either)

Make sure they operate on the correct leg.
Mend well.
Careful on the crutches too. My buddy wrecked an ankle in law school. Metal needed. Ankle turned out fine...serious shoulder problems from crutching around the city with books and poor technique.

Would you have any interest in my basketball tickets for tomorrow night? I am not in any sort of shape to go to the game.
Most of my friends are acting all noble and saying that it doesn't feel right going without me (although some are simply balking at the 9:00 start time), so, as of right now, the tickets are still up for grabs.

Nevermind, one of my friends finally took the tickets. I will let you know if they are up for grabs again in the future. It may be a while before I can make it to another game.

Assuming that by now someone with some sense grabbed the tickets. We were driving back from Vegas today, long day, with interruptions for finding people and other miscellaneous adventures.
How are you doing? Sounds like you were prepping for surgery with the update from last week, was it the knee itself or above or below?
Hopefully you are doing as well as can be expected.

Full update here . TL;DR - I pretty much destroyed the tibia plateau in my right knee (basically the bottom half of the knee joint). I am not going to be able to walk for 3 months. For the time being, I am basically stuck in bed. My spirits are generally high, but this is going to be a long haul.

Post away! It looks like I will have to be living vicariously through you for a while. I can't walk or drive a car for 3 fucking months. I don't even know when they are going to let me get back on a bike.

Yeah, the surgeons said that the metal shouldn't set off any detectors, but don't think that it doesn't worry me a little bit. Here is some SR20 for you!

Right leg. My DD is manual, but I'm not sure it would even matter - they told me I am not allowed to drive for about 3 months :(

Oh my. Wow. That looks terrible.
So for now, elevation, rest and... Rest?
Fuck man, I am really sorry to hear that. Heal quickly, be awesome to your wife, and though I am sure that you have a hell of a system of friends and family in place, if I can help, it never hurts to ask, and I don't offer help without meaning it.
How long will you be completely stuck to the bed/bathroom routine? Will you be able to use a wheelchair once the swelling/inflammation goes down and the healing really starts, or are you basically in fragile egg mode for the long haul?
