Kinja'd!!!

She needs some work from the previous owner laying her down, but nothing too serious. Mostly cosmetic damage, and a clutch lever that I broke trying to wrestle it into my garage :'(

The engine, transmission, and frame are all in great condition. So with some repair work and some routine maintenance (needs a new chain), I'll have her back into fighting shape by next summer. As a bonus, since replacing all of the body panels with Chinese made ones is cheaper than replacing one Honda OEM panel, I'll get to choose the color. Right now I'm thinking white would go well with the red wheels.

nope, only bodywork issues are on the rear and left side. There are scratches on the alternator cover (probably won't bother with that one for a while) and a bent footpeg. Honda was smart enough to have a large piece of plastic covering the tank, making it pretty resilient to damage. I'll be changing that plastic piece out with the one that comes with the body panel kit I end up getting.

They're cheaper but aftermarket plastic fades quickly and looks like shit after a while. The OEM plastic is better quality.

Other than that, nice bike! Fall is the time to buy them too, prices go down after summer. Previous owner realize he got more bike than he could handle?

Makes me wonder what would happen if the prev. owner bought a 919 and thought it was too much.... Mind you, the 919 was a detuned CBR900 now rated at 100 HP.

That's still a lot of power for somebody that has never ridden before. Add in a sport bike chassis and you've got a recipe for crashes. Luckily, the idiots that buy them new eat the depreciation.

Ha, yeah I think he may have been in over his head. By any measure though 1000 cc bikes are just too much, but it was a deal that I just couldn't pass up.

As for the Chinese plastics, I'm probably going to go with a solid color. That way if it fades in a few years, I'll just re-paint it myself. It'll never be a showbike, as it has nicks and scratches from years of riding, and to buy new OEM plastics (specifically the ones I'd need) I would almost write off the cost of the bike.

There's no reason for a 1000 cc bike to be ridden on the street. Which is exactly why I like them.

I'm sure it'll be fine. Do you have much experience riding land missiles?

Four years on two wheels, and some limited experience with 600 cc 'land missiles'. But a bike is a bike, and I'll just keep the revs low and the gears high until I get the hang of it. Absolutely terrifying amount of power on tap though, found that out real quick when I took a highway on-ramp.

One thing is for sure, it's WAY different than my 32 year old Yamaha.

I don't know if riding a bike like that would be fun. I like the power of the Gods under my hand, but I also like to hear my engine rev without committing felonies. One slip or bump in a corner and you will double the speed limit.

And that would just be first gear!

If I need a speed fix there is a racetrack nearby that has drag nights twice a week, and track days throughout the summer. Not saying I'm good enough to even close to utilize the potential of the CBR, but a few educational track days are definitely in this bikes future.

I was almost going to suggest track days. I think Skip Barber does a super bike school too.
