Blipshift wants submissions that are sized 600x600 pixels. Does that mean they want the images to be in a square format? I really should know this since my mother is a graphic designer, but I'm drawing a blank.

Yes, 600x600 would be a square image. Much like 1600x900 would be in the HD 16:9 format.

Squares are for squares. You could easily email them and ask if you can provide other aspects.
Also, 600x600 seems really small for a T-shirt.

I would say like this. But I wonder if they have any DPI requirements also. This with 600 dpi is only a inch. But at 72 dpi it is 8" I would think as long as you send them your work in the proper format and its 600x600 they will do the rest.
