Generation Z wants nothing to do with automotive culture

Tonight I took my precious 2 year old boy to the toy store to look at Power Wheels for his birthday this weekend.

I was excited - his first 'car.'

That was until he decided cars were stupid.

I left devastated, carrying in a bag a wooden train set and all hopes my kid would love cars as much as I do.

Hopefully, like self-defecation, he'll grow out of this hatred towards cars. Then again this could be a sign that the next generation of American youth will hate cars more than Gen Y, the sports car is dead and there is no God.

You need a project car, it's your only hope. Once he see's dad working on the car he'd want to help. That's how my dad got me into cars. My first memory is helping him work on his 109 Series IIa and I have been hooked ever since.

My 2 1/2 year old is sitting with me. I asked her which car she wanted, and she pointed to the Mini Cooper. She is now saying " he don't like cars". Sorry, man, but gender roles of changed!

An iPad, Real Racing 3 and lots of awesome cars has made my 11 year old son love cars. It may take some time, but he'll come around. It's in the blood.

That's years down the road, but it is on my Father-and-Son bucket list.

I think it helps. I'm not trying to push my daughter, but she genuinely has an interest in what I'm doing. She likes to grab a wrench and bang on my project. As long as she isn't getting hurt in the garage, I'm okay with it.

I was around 4 when my dad brought the truck home from the scrap yard, took 6 years to rebuild as he'd only work on it when I was around. Friggin love that thing, still have it after 25 years.

Get him to play racing games. That's part of what got me interested in cars.

Oh come on. I always said no when I was his age. I loved my little Peg Perego Gaucho though.
