I think the Veloster/Elantra are a better bet for the hot hatch/sedan market. Closer in size to the GLI/Civic, plus they're worldwide products while the Mistra is planned to be China-only.

The bigger Jetta and newest Civic are both bigger than the Golf and previous versions of the Civic. This is about the right size.

Elantra with the sonatas 2.0t, Stiffer set up, proper seats, 6 speed, beefed up exterior looks (rims, bumpers, badging, maybe a lip spoiler) and price it at or just above 20k? Hyundai would have a winner. Plenty of power, good looks, great price.
