I let a car back out of a spot this morning, and it dawned on me that I've never seen my own car's reverse lights. I mean sure, it's not that difficult (or that interesting, let's be honest) to IMAGINE what they look like. I certainly know what the back of my garage looks like when my reverse lights are on, but there's no way to get out of the car and see the lights themselves of course. Google image turns up no satisfactory results, which is understandably an odd photo for someone to take. I guess I'll just have to wait until I see someone with the same car backing up.

I, like any other GM owner AFAIK, see them every time I lock or unlock the car.

I've never seen myself in the mirror with my eyes closed.

Simple solution. Get in your car, turn the key on/engine off, apply parking brake, shift into reverse, go look at reverse lights.

I like to get out and walk around the car while the lights are on at night. It's nice to know what it looks like. I never thought about the fact that I haven't seen it's reverse lights... thanks for that.

1. Put in reverse.
2. Apply parking brake.
3. ???
4. Look at that shit!

But you could take a picture of the mirror while your eyes are closed...

If I looked at that I'd be seeing a picture of myself in the mirror with my eyes closed not the real deal.

I believe I just get the 4-way flashers with my remote.

Duh, I didn't think about that fact that they would come on with the ignition in the on position.

I was thinking the clutch would kill the engine, but I didn't think about simply leaving the ignition in the "on" position. I'm a huge failure at life.
In my defense, it was 7 am when I was thinking about this initially.

I made my girlfriend drive my car around a course and watched every indicator, headlight, tailight, foglight, brake light and reverse light. (This is also how I found out that I only have one foglight functioning)

That's how you have to check it for inspection if you don't have anyone around to atand behind the car.

And the horn honks at max volume.

Yeah, we don't have inspections in this state. Headlights, DRL's, and turn signals are also easy to tell just from the driver seat, and I can check the reflection of all three brake lights any time I have a big SUV, pickup or semi truck behind me at a stop light. If it's something with a large chrome grill, I can see the break lights almost any time of day.

That's one thing I like about my car, it has a separate and borderline pleasing tone for the remote, it doesn't use the horn.

Exactly. My Audi does a nice soft sound. My MIL's Saturn blasts your eardrums.

Back up to any store with a big glass window and look at the reflection in your car's rear-view mirror. That's how I check to make sure my car's rear light bulbs aren't burned out.

You're lucky, they're pretty anal here. It was a big thing when they waived the emissions inspection for 1995 and older vehicles.

Emissions testing is required every other year in WA State for vehicles older than 5 years but younger than 25 years. They don't check anything else though, no safety check or anything.
I also just learned that diesel vehicles built after 2007 require no emissions testing. Another pro in the diesel column I suppose.

New York is downright draconian compared to that.

I've been meaning to try that for years.
