Out of boredom, I decided to do math. You know, about space stuff. Because I don't know, why not.
Anyway, VY Canis Majoris is so big that if you scaled it down to the size of Earth, then Earth on the same scale would have a diameter of just half a millimeter. This is a scale of about 1:25,688,348,928, and that's a pretty big number for a pretty big star. So yeah. The best part is that, statistically speaking, with how much of the universe we haven't seen, there's a very good chance something even bigger exists out there. Just... It's crazy.

I always loved astronomy. I wanted to major in it in college. Instead, I thought it wouldn't be lucrative enough to provide for a family, so I did some programing and web design.
Stop laughing.

I always wonder about scale within the universe. Is there a standard measure for size? And if so, how can we be certain everything else is relative to that? Is it the subatomic? How big can big get? What if there's an entirely different proportion for scale, something that's millions of times larger than the largest object in the visible universe? What if our universe is collectively just a subatomic particle in an atom in another universe? Whoah.

When you start talking about the scale of things on an astronomical or subatomic scale it just completely boggles my mind. Even on a geologic scale it is impossible for me to truly comprehend things.

Powers of Ten by Eames! :D I watched it about 5 times when I was a kid during an Eames exhibition in a museum. It's so bloody wicked and memorable.

I saw that! I'd post it all over the place if I wasn't too lazy to remove the DCW label.
