I think this could be considered one of the automotive surprises of the year, because it does not look remotely as offensive in person as it does in pictures.

I actually kind of liked it in person

The Fiat 500L on the other hand...*shudders*

I like both. I haven't test driven either, and only sat inside a 500L, but I like the styling of both even if they look goofy in person.

500L is one of the top 5 ugliest cars on sale right now in the US. Haven't seen the jeep in person yet. I hope you are right.

Yeah, I'm warming to it, too.

The 500L? Nope. Taking dysmorphic '57 500 styling cues and throwing them on a front engine/front-drive phone booth of a small hatchback 50 years later was enough.

Bloating them up to B-car and C-car proportions? Sticking them on a Scion xB-like body?

I get that the 500 is the most profitable, successful car they've had for years now. But thinking you can 500-ize everything in your lineup and the formula will work reminds me of the Alan Parsons Project. "Eye in the Sky", with its "chugging" guitar backup, was their only huge hit. They then went on to throw that line into subsequent singles, all of which saw less success than the song before it.

It's time for FIAT to be FIAT again. Not time to recall better times. Time to make new better times. One throwback car is enough. But they're becoming Rover now.

I concur on both.

Saw a cherokee go by me yesterday and it looked nice...I've liked it since the beginning and have always said, for what it is (emphasis on what it is) it's really, really capable.

Don't get me wrong, the Jeep is still unique and the headlights are still a bit odd, but it's certainly not offensive. The interior is rather nice too.
