So I posted about this SR20DET swapped 240Z on craigslist...

... and I got a chance to see it in real life. Someone bought it and brought it down to the shop I work with on my cars. Here's a link to the post I made about the CL ad:
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

I was going to write up a full tear down of what I thought, but I haven't talked to the owner and would hate to give away details he wants to share (or does not want to share) around the intertubes. I will say it looked at lot better on CL than in person. The guy who built it obviously was doing so in his garage or backyard and half-assed some things I disagree with and a lot of things that don't make sense... but I'm interested to see what the new owner does to fix the issues. It sounds like he is willing to spend the money to fix it the right way.

Here are some pics I snagged.

wow, there's a lot of room when you take out the straight 6. I bet the sr20 makes more usable power anyway

The SR bone stock makes about 25% more power and torque than the L26 that they came with, has about another 1200 rpms of head room in the power band, and makes the car mid engine. The real nice part is that they little SR is extremely flexible. If you leave it alone you are going to have mileage somewhere in the mid to upper 30's. If you play with it, you can have over 400HP relatively easily.

I did my car's SR swap because it's mostly a DD/track toy, so I wanted something fast, light, and bullet proof. If I build another one I want to either go with a L28 built to the hilt (maybe even a Rebello stroker) or an RB26DETT. The possibilities are endless with an engine bay this big.

So much room... Someone with very large amounts of money should put a wrecked Lambo's V12 in it. Or an E60 M5 V10. Or a Viper V10.

Anything completely ridiculous will do.

(sigh: remembering the epic of a '74 Z motor with the covers off. ) The upgrade better be worth it.. (remembers how much a rebuild costs) Okay, I can understand.

Haven't owned one, but If you helped fix or rushed in rides, you get to use other people's cars in anecdotes.

Looks like a fox body engine bay. Even with a modular 4.6 motor in there it still looks like there is room.

Yeah, and the gutless 74 engine was one of the worst made. The sound was amazing on all of them.

Basically it's a massive weight savings with the SR, gets fuel injection, a turbo, 25% more power and torque out of the box, and far easier to find parts.

People have put V10s and V12s into them. I have seen a V16, but I don't remember where. Pretty much hybridz.org is based around all the crazy options.

My thoughts of swapping a z involve a VG30 possibly on boost. Excellent sounds n/a or "prodigious" power on boost...hardly much lighter than an sr20.

Heh.. I forgot to mention my extensive memory of the valve structure was part of my bud's tinkering that eventually led to a 280 motor etc etc.

I assume you mean a DE or DETT and not E? Either one would be a bit of a let down over an L28ET or most other options just from a power for weight ratio. The SR puts down 25% more power than a VG30ET out of the box and has a lot more variety in the parts department. A DETT has good power potential, but weighs a ton... which is why a lot of people look to go VH45 when given the option.

Yeah, jumping to an L28 from the L26/24 is really common.
