By small car, I mean something around the size of a Fiat 500 or a Mini. This gets my vote.

Obligatory 500 Abarth post.

I almost want one for the noise. . . but then I can't muster the strength up to sit in one.

Is that it? There has to be more.

Here's another Fiat.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that isn't the original engine. . .

These are awesome alright. I see a black one almost every day in my hood while walking my dog, and I usually hear the guy drop the hammer at least once. Aural stimulation FTW.

Haha, you didn't specify originality! It's just a mean-sounding small car.

This is true. The V12 powered one would have fit the bill very well.

not the manliest, but definitely the most aggressive in this category imo.

A 9K RPM redline does help.

Fiat 695 Tributo Ferrari. I have never heard a better noise come out of almost any car.

We really need to do this in America.

This is maybe a little of a stretch, but the 1.0 Ecoboost might be a contender. The video isn't a stock EB, so try to ignore all the crazy turbo noises. The exhaust note itself is really pretty good. Three cylinders sound beefier than they really are - almost V6-like. The 1.0 Fiesta, with a decently tu n ed exhaust and an opened up intake could sound pretty cool.

I completely forgot about this engine. I love you for reminding of it.

Where did my pants go? They were just on me...
Seriously, a lot of people know make fun of that car. I hate those people, because that car is better than 99% of the cars I see on a daily basis.

It was pretty awesome, we were taking our son to get a haircut, and I had been telling him about these awesome little cars that had scorpion logos, and how cool they sounded earlier in the day. Then what to my wondering ears did appear, a tiny 500, that snarled and growled like he wanted to eat the reindeer! Anyway, he pulled in next to us as we were getting ready to leave, and he noticed me pointing the car out. He was really cool about it, and we did the quick little "awesome car, I love the way they sound! Thanks man" exchange, when he caught me totally off guard by not only getting back in and starting her back up, but also offering to let me hop in and rev it up a few times as well! If you are out there, Opponaut, I salute you.

Some VW with a VR6 or an I5.

Uhhhh which one? I am not sure if you wanted to post a video or not. Or are you saying any small car with a V8 swap sound big?
![]() 11/13/2013 at 01:50 |

Did a VW come with an inline 5? I know about the VR6, hell they even made a VR5 for some vehicles in mexico.

I was just joking.
Your choice sounds pretty darn good to me. Best sounding 4 cylinder I've heard to date.

Does it have to be modern?
If not, this. Definitely this.

Vintage Alfa racers.
No sound clip attached; your speakers won't do it justice.

Crappy, bouncy video and it appears to be a kit car based on the wheels. But these are the manliest sounding small car.
NINJA EDIT: Found a Jay Leno video, so it is a true AC Cobra. Engine starts at around 3:30.

How manly!

There's so few, that I think it almost doesn't count, but the Super Snake sounds a whole hell of a lot manlier than that tiny little 427. I mean, the difference isn't HUGE, considering the Super Snake has the same 427 side oiler, but it's got that Paxton supercharger, and sounds like hell is coming back for the beast that escaped and became the Super Snake. Unfortunately, I don't have an audio sample to post right now (and the one I do have is not the best).

I don't know if you would consider the Volvo C30 as a small car, but that 2.5L Turbo 5 cylinder sounds very mean!
