Alright ladies, I teased with a photo the other week, but here are some really shitty photos of the new truck. Had a 2006 Touareg before, maintenance was turning into a pain in the ass, now this is sitting in my garage.
First impressions? Damn it is way more fun than an SUV ever should be. It pulls and pulls and pulls. When it hits fuel cut off at ~6,000 rpm it's still pulling, which is such an odd feeling coming from high hp small displacement turbo cars. Interior is on par with the Treg and the exterior just looks mean. And the exhaust, oh the exhaust, it sounds down right nasty when you get on it in sport or track mode.
Claimed 0-60 and 1/4 mile from SRT are 4.8 and 13.1 but a number of guys in stock trim are hitting low 4's and 12.6 - 12.9 in the 1/4.
I couldn't be happier, I'll do a full fat guy review in a few weeks once I get the real feel for the truck. For now though - it's just straight awesome.

Not gonna lie but that car looks awesome. I don't really own an SUV but if needed one I would get this one.

I need one to carry my dumb dogs around and to drive in the winter. My other car is a built Evo that is summer duty only.
I was considering another Euro SUV but this thing really ups the game for the domestic product. Finally something I'm actually excited to own that's not Japanese or German.

You best get proper some tires on that beast that can handle the white stuff sooner than later.

Wednesday :) All set up with a set to be swapped on. The PZero 3 season performance tires are definitely not the preference for ice and snow.

Thats interesting I own an A4 and although the Q5 looks great I may not even consider that one if I were to get an SUV. Really though I have thought about the Cherokee as an SUV choice for a couple of years now but MAN, they have been looking better and better.

I want to hate this thing but man you're convincing me otherwise. That interior seems really really nice.

Awesome! I've always liked the SRT8 jeeps. If I could I would take a WK1 body with a WK2 interior and powerplant.

06 Touareg maintenance problems? Which engine? What issues?

Nice truck but have fun with that 'awesome' gas mileage...

I highly suggest you leave the Pirellis behind period.
Go for Hankook V12s if not Michelins.
Pirellis, they are good for one thing. Premature wear. Ours went in 40,000km. 2 years. For an all season Scorpion ATR. That is just stupidity if you ask me.

CONGRATULATIONS! That looks awesome!
This is probably the only SUV I would buy.

reallly REALLY looks like an audi man

Sweet. My experience with many, many vintage Mopar drivelines is about 8-12,ooo miles for a thorough loosening up. If this one follows suit, you will probably see 12's and a mileage improvement after that also.
I have a phone video of a friend's last Gen SRT GC that ran 10's. I'll see if I can find it......

As someone who has lived in Texas for 19 years... #notatruck
But otherwise it's a stunning vehicle.

You telling him to go to V12 EVO's must be a joke right? Those tires are absolute garbage. I couldn't grip for crap with my E46 M3.

The Pirellis will be used until they die and then never used again… I have Ventus V12's on my Evo that I haven't even put a mile on yet so I'll see how they do there.
Not too concerned about the summer tires, performance ones all wear out fast, it's a consumable you just need to be prepared to pay for :(

Had the V8 petrol motor in it.
Driver's door lock went so none of the auto lights or interior lights worked correctly - $800 - $1,000
AC was squealing and lost all air pressure after 90 minutes of driving, horrible PIA for long road trips. $2,000 - $3,000
HID headlights were going very dim and starting to flutter, $2,000 ish by the time it was all sorted.
Coolant leak, trans leak, squeaks inside etc.

You don't buy one of these and worry about gas mileage. Hell, making that comment alone most likely proves you are not in the target audience for this one…
Shitty mileage kind of goes hand in hand with a 6.4L V8 and 5,500 lbs...

There are two others for sale right now and that's all I can find. This is the only black one I've found so far. Pretty cool to be a little original! Mixed with the Evo I've got a pretty solid garage now.

lol - very true. I hate typing SUV all the time, in my mind it's either a car or a truck. It is too big to be a car, so I put it in the "truck" category.
Also - check out cherokeesrt8.com - a lot of guys from Texas there still call it a truck ;)

Doing what I can!
I always said I wouldn't buy another domestic, then I took this thing for a test drive and was sold.

Pure bread long hair German Shepherd and a 1/2 pit bull, 1/4 rotweiller, 1/4 lab.

Yah, I bought the V12's on a whim for the Evo because they were cheap and I wanted to try them out. Chances are they'll be ripped off in the spring and a set of Pilot Super Sports will be on there.

It was actually the biggest thing pushing me away from one of those. I am no MPG freak, I have driven and owned a few jacked up trucks, and even my 7,400 lbs F350 got way better gas mileage than this Jeep. I understand it is performance oriented but I don't think I could deal with city traffic and this things pre-disposition to binge drinking gasoline.
(Also, no manual...)
![]() 11/11/2013 at 17:25 |
|
Yah, no manual is something you just have to live with in the SUV market. The gas mileage is about the same as any other performance SUV.
I'm averaging about 13 Miles/Gallon right now with mostly city driving. I never drive in Eco and my foot is always in it though.
Big motor, big power, big SUV, just get what you get.

"no manual is something you just have to live with in the SUV market."
I'll take reasons why I bought a Wrangler for $500 Alex.
It may not be fast, but its fun as hell, especially when you live in a desert, as I do.

You'd have a pretty good garage if it was just either one of them!! I'd say it's solidily "great" now!!

Whoa. No good!

I dig it. I still regret selling my hi-po SUV, and really love the "practicality" that comes with them. Maybe I'll get another one...hmmm
