Well Oppo, it's Rememberance Day, and I must say, rememberance day has taken on a special meaning for me, because a few of my friends went and fought in Afghanistan. One of them suffered an extremely serious injury, as a claymore mine he was training with blew up. He lost his liver, pancreas, spleen, kidney, and appendix.
But thanks to the care of excellent medical staff, he lived.
Other's were not so lucky.
To those that served: Thanks, your sacrifices will never be forgotten. Here is a song called
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! (which is the part of the 401, where Canadians are driven from Air force Base Trenton, to the Coroner's Office in Toronto, before they are sent to which ever part of the country they came from).
"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them."
We will never forget the 158 brave Canadians whom paid the ultimate price in Afghanistan.

I was fortunate enough to be up north a few years back on Remembrance Day. The wife and I were in some mall in Toronto that leads to the Hockey Hall of Fame when an announcer came over the PA system and said it was almost 11am and he asked that everyone stop and observe a minute of silence in remembrance of the fallen. Everyone, absolutely everyone stopped, hats came off and you could have heard a pin drop for that minute. Shamefully that doesn't happen here.
This past summer I had the pleasure of meeting a group of Canadians who had served in the US military during the Vietnam War. They were doing a bike ride to DC to the Vietnam memorial. Good group of guys and I thanked them all.
From a US vet to my brothers up north, thank you for your service.

I think the war in Afghanistan really increased the popularity of remembering the troops here. Here is an article about Rememberance Day`s growing popularity in Canada.

Thanks for the article Bigboss, just got done reading it. Since a trip to the UK is financially out of the question next year, I think I'll make plans to be in Canada next November 11th for the commemoration ceremonies.

You are most welcome. I know you would be welcome with open arms up here at a ceremony. Thanks for your service to your country which does a lot to keep our vast underpopulated space safe.

Your welcome!
Is that your Grand National in your avatar (or whatever the little picture is called)? If it is, when are we going to read a write about it?

It is a Grand National. Sadly, it's not mine, I stole the pic from the internet because it was badass, and also my dream car.
Sadly, I drive this:
