Can I be a citizen of 3 countries at the same time? [ EDIT: US allows this, not sure about the other two ] I am a US citizen currently, but I am eligible to file for citizenship in Italy and Luxembourg. Just curious.

Here's a Caddy for the trouble.

Nope. US nationals can only be a national of it and one other country.

No. It depends on the laws of all counties involved and least the US would object.

I've read through this. My situation is not addressed, unfortunately. The US, Italy, and Luxembourg all allow dual citizenship. It gets very complicated once I try and search for more details.

THIS is exactly this issue. I'm getting conflicting info everywhere. According to this, the US doesn't give a rat's ass if I held triple citizenship. And each situation is obviously unique, since each country's laws need to be obeyed.

Why not? I am a citizen of the Universe and all that it encompasses. I was bestowed that many years ago by a friend on LSD.

Well the US says no if it is your first country of origin. So if you are a US national and apply you might or will lose citizenship to the US.

yea it sounds confusing good luck.

It's all about "intent to lose US citizenship," which I obviously don't intend to do. You're right though, this is incredibly complicated. And it doesn't help that many of Luxembourg's documents are written in the utterly incomprehensible Luxembourgish language.

Have you contacted the State Department? How about your Congressman's office? I think that's where I'd start.

I'm heading to DC in January, where I plan on visiting the Italian and Luxembourgish embassies. Regarding the US, in the traditional bureaucratic fashion, my emails and calls from months ago have been ignored or replied to with the "We'll get back to you" excuse.

Have you tried visiting your Congressman's local office? I'd go in and politely demand someone help me with some answers.

I'd check with a lawyer, I was curious so I did a bit of a google search and found every answer from no way to sure you can be a citizen of as many countries as you want. Maybe an immigration lawyer would know. What would the benefit of it be?

I dunno the answer but I have a related question:
Let's say I have US, and Canadian Citizenship. When travelling between the two countries which passport would I use?
