The most disappointing thing about the Forza 5 car list

I finally got around to seeing what the 200 cars that made it into Forza 5 were, and one thing stood out, something horribly disappointing: There aren't really that many slow cars.

A big part of the appeal, for me at least, of the GT/Forza style of game is taking a cheap, slow beater of a car and slowly transforming it into an absolute rocketship. There just aren't that many opportunities to do so in Forza 5 right out of the box.

What I love about the GT series is that they have obscure slow ass JDM cars that I can rice out but make stupid fast.

Yeah, this is my main complaint, too. There is a reason for it, though, and for the missing tracks. The precision of the model just wasn't up to T10's standards for the new console. Everything they are using from now on is laser-scanned.

It's justifiable from a production standpoint, but it still makes me sad.

Not only that, but the thing that GT does better than Forza, in my opinion, is it causes you to really bond with your car. You grow with it, you start to understand its strengths and weaknesses and you can more intuitively adjust both the car's settings and your driving style to better suit using it.

Yeah. I love me some old MGs, Beetles, etc. Also, I really hope they can wrangle some Porsches up again sometime.

My problem with Forza, despite having 5 reserved and playing all the others, is that you advance too quickly. I play on near max difficulty with almost all the driver assists turned off, and the stupid game gives you a car every 20-30 minutes, and you make money so fast that you can buy legit supercars after a few hours of play, and if you drive a single manufacturer or even two or three, you accumulate affinity so fast that parts are free within a couple of hours...it's great for most folks that love immediate rewards...but it pisses me off. I know it's odd, but I want to be forced to slowly upgrade each car I have, scraping together tiny amounts of cash per race for better tires/brakes/whatever, and getting a new car far less often.

That was my biggest problem with Forza 4. They fucking threw cars at you left and right, and you'd start getting parts for free before too long (along with even more money). Every car in the game felt disposable because of this.

Another thing that's frustrating about Forza 5 besides the car list and tracks (which is very disappointing) is that apparently you have to download most of the career mode stuff, which seems really strange to me. Another thing that's weird is they have 1, just 1, F1 car in there, the Lotus E21. Don't get me wrong, that's pretty awesome, but what the hell are we supposed to do with 1 Formula 1 car. What are you supposed to race against? A grid full of Lotus E21's? That's just weird haha. But oh well, I'll probably eventually get the Xbox One once it gets cheaper and more games are out for it, and I know I'll get Forza 5 too. But for now, I'm totally content with Forza 4...

The Forza series has seemed to lose focus. I think Turn10 realized that Polyphony has several years of development history more than they do, not to mention how tight with the auto industry Kaz has gotten over the years. It seems like they realized they can't really beat GT at its own game, and want to try something else, they just don't know what it is yet. They tried to branch out with Horizon and with FM5, they just seem kinda confused.

I agree with that completely; it has seemed like they lost focus, although I actually found Horizon quite enjoyable, given that I also had Forza 4 to play when I wanted a more serious, sim-like approach, and also F1 2012. The sad part about the whole thing is, I honestly don't think they needed to change Forza 5 so majorly from what Forza 4/ every other Forza game was like because they were good games, and they didn't necessarily have to compete with GT since (most) people don't buy consoles solely off of what the main racing game for that console is. But unfortunately, I'd say that it appears that GT5 is definitely better than FM5, so hopefully T10 realizes that the way things were before is actually better for business and they can return to form with another, better game later on down the road.

Eh, most people just wanna toss around the zillion horsepower GT-Rs, Zondas and the like. And after they can't handle it, they'll upgrade it with everything to make it handle better, but of course add all the power mods as well, so the problem is compounded.

Every bloody damn time I set up the PS3 for my buddies to dick around on GT5, same story. I have to practically beg for a race in a sub 300HP range. Not to worry though, I've got an Elise sorted a hair under 300HP and can run rings around their noob asses day in day out. :D

What ticked me off is that one of these buddies turned down a road trip to the Nürburgring solely on the grounds of "my (mom's) car is shit, I won't have fun there, blah blah blah". And he claims to be a petrolhead. And it ain't a completely shit car, a previous gen Kia Pro_Cee'd with the 120HP-ish mill. Heck, another buddy from this group made the trip in a 60HP Peugeot 206 1.1 and had great fun. In two runs that I co-drove, 3 Porsches were overtaken. You really can't ask for more than that. :D

To end my fairly off-topic post, here's a testament to wankers that are my friends. The Brunnchen armco:

The F1 20xx games aren't very good IMO. There's nearly zero feedback through a gamepad to tell you if you're losing traction. Your car just suddenly slides and the ONLY indication of this is entirely visual, either in reduction of speed and or seeing your vehicle yaw. IRL you have your entire body to feel the vehicle yawing off center of where your front wheels are turned, and videogames can't provide this. Forza has always done an incredible job of countering this handicap by using rumble feedback in heavy amounts. You can feel everything the wheels are doing through the controller, and it's what makes Forza so accessible to me. The F1 20xx games are nigh devoid of any kind of feedback of this nature. I bought F1 2010 and gave up after a while because of it. I tried the F1 2012 demo and it didn't feel any better.

Yeah, Forza is no doubt the best all around racing game (On Xbox). Even though, as you say, the F1 series isn't nearly as realistic as Forza, I still think it's fun to have the F1 structure (practice, qualy, race) and also being able to race on the F1 circuits that arernt on any other game. (COTA among others).

Yeah, my only problem with the F1 games is the lack of feedback. Everything else is good, but I just can't control the cars well enough with a gamepad to have fun with them. I love the tracks, other than that they're almost all Herman Tilke tracks.
