Kimi Raikkonen will not drive any more races for Lotus this season, according to his manager. Things had been getting contentious between the team and Raikkonen, especially over the last couple of races, after there were clear and mumbled !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! words over the team's radio — there's also the little issue of Lotus still not having paid Kimi anything for 2013's racing season. There had been !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! that something like this might happen, however such speculation over these the aforementioned issues had been !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

Instead of driving in the final two races, Kimi has opted to have back surgery and take an early start to the off-season and post surgery rehab, surely to be done in the Finn's own style. Raikkonen had !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! been trying to wait until the season was over but had been suffering more and more from an injury sustained to his back during the Singapore GP.

While I'm happy that Kimi is going to get the surgery he needs and will be back racing next year in F1, I'm really going to miss him driving the black Lotus #7; it has been a lot fun having him back over the past two years and especially so since Lotus had been pretty much letting Kimi be Kimi. Best wishes to him for a successful surgery and the same awesome start to 2014 he had this year.

Kimi: "but they don't pay me"

That's weird because just yesterday I was reading a quote from him talking about how he's looking forward to racing in the Austin.

My guess is that this was a call by Luca. They want him healthy for next year.

Pretty much. That back problem has been around for a long time, now would be the perfect time to say fuck you and get ready for next year. But it does seem like it has gotten worse lately and I'm sure a doctor has been informing the team with facts.

Back problems have a way of getting worse when you least expect it, given the strain they endure it wouldn't surprise me if he was just at home and it decided to give him trouble a few days after a race weekend. Teams don't just get a call and agree, Kimi has been checked out by the doctor and the doctor has given a full report, there is far too much money involved.
