What is your perfect road trip? No limitations, just pure joy.

Kinja'd!!!

It's quite easy to pick a great road and some supercars, but lets also consider the promise of buying three crappy cars in another country, fixing them up, and trying to see if you can cross some great distance, both geographically and metaphysically. And whats not a great road trip without some taunting friends to tear apart your pristine experience and make it memorable...

Kinja'd!!!

If you're feeling up to it, go for both.

Start heading west until you are back where you started.

Route: CT to FL via I-95

Season: Winter, with snow on the ground until the Mason-Dixon

Passengers: None

Car: Black 2006 Mustang V-6 with manual transmission and two 12" subwoofers in the trunk

Yes, a 2006 Mustang V-6. This is not my dream car, but it should be a decently comfortable American car that won't attract unwanted attention in either rough urban areas, or isolated rural areas. The V-6 would give me better MPG's than the GT, and a quieter exhaust note won't attract attention either. The car is old enough to blend in, new enough to have cruise control, and American... so the slack-jawed yokels out in the sticks don't think I'm a politically correct anti-2nd amendment socialist queer. That would be pretty bad...

A Sportscar convoy across Europe with a bunch of friends. Starting in Scotland, passing though London, then going into France and it's surrounding countries finding the best driving roads in the world.

The cars would be:

Mercedes SLS

Aston Martin Vantage

Porsche 911 GT3

Ferrari F430 Spider

Subaru BRZ

Ford GT

Audi R8 V10 Spyder

BMW E92 M3

I'm doin it soon! I have a K5 Blazer down in Southern Baja, which is getting a bit rough, and inadequate for serious towing/exploring duty. So I bought a '97 Tahoe, which I've hooked up with some basic off-roading gear. Going to take the Tahoe down the raggedy dirt roads along the Sea of Cortez side of Baja, leave it at my place, and drive the K5 up the Pacific side to San Diego to keep as a resto-project.

Got a little Zodiac to strap to the roof, and I'm going to fish, drink, and camp all the way down, and all the way back up over the course of about 2 weeks. I cannot describe the level of anticipation.

I've done it a couple times dude (in an e39, not a Mustang). Sorry to burst your bubble, but it kinda sucks. Go find some mountains.

For me, it would have to be Seattle, WA to Tampa, FL Via Ottawa, Canada, Anchoredge AL, and Dallas, TX
GPS, only a paper map of the continuous 48 states and Canada. Car choice? well, i'd take 2, and have my dad drive the other one. Road tripping around the US with him is one of my dreams, but since he lives about 5500 miles away, this plan probably will never come to fruition.
Anyways, For the cars, i'd have a Carrera 4S, with the powerkit, sport design package, cream leather interior, with wood accenting, and a few of the Porsche performance goodies (no, not the $8,500 dollar brakes, or the stupid doppelkupungsgetreibe gearbox, i'll have the 7 speed manual!) also, roof box, for extra storage space, and downforce!
Dad, meanwhile, would be in his dream Porsche, The Cayenne Turbo S. Again, all the options on it, but without model designation, and with 19 inch Cayenne wheels on it, for sleeper abilities. This would be the repair vehicle, carrying spares for both cars!

I've done it several times (in a Saab, not an E39), and I love it.

As for a good mountainous road trip, I recommend I-80 through Pennsylvania. Takes only six hours to get through the state, but the Appalachians are beautiful and you can cruise around 80 - 90 mph and still go with the flow of traffic.

Maybe I did it wrong, but between the traffic, lack of curves, police presence, and uninspiring scenery I got bored quick and stayed that way for a loooooong time.

From what I've seen, the traffic is terrible until south of D.C. From there down to Jacksonville, it's pretty open. As for the lack of curves, granted, it can be pretty boring. But when I see a three mile long straight away in the middle of nowhere during daylight hours, it's pretty sweet. The warmer climate down there keeps the pavement in excellent shape, and they have nice wide shoulders. After visually clearing the road for police, traffic, road conditions, etc. it's a decent opportunity to push it up to... "55 mph".

As for the scenery, when I see that first palm tree, it all becomes worth it.

For me.....back in the mid 70's, a bunch of my buddies were vacationing in Wildwood NJ.

Hooked up with a local and we drove all over southern NJ getting all kinds of seafood for a party-then afterwards-we drove up to the Stone Pony and saw Bruce.

Next day, I woke up in someones bathtub.
