It's an aero modification used in racing to reduce drag by creating a uniform surface along the bottom of a vehicle's floor pan.

Flat floors reduce turbulence. Look under your car and youll see exhaust, brake and fuel lines, shapes, spinning drive shafts perhaps, a fuel tank, suspension pieces...etc. It's blanking all of that off and giving the air a different surface to flow past...a flat floor reduces drag alot but then can be a base for ground effects. That link to ground effects describes that part pretty well. If only using a flat floor, you can lower the front and raise the back and create more downforce by making a ground effect, altering the underbody pressure at that point.

I have no idea how in the game they will represent that beyond just reducing drag.....hmm...

I hated that so much. I always like painting my cars the same color and putting the same rims on them. It was virtually impossible.
