...by the number of people who go out of their way to tell you it's the BEST EVER.
Pic unrelated. Possibly.

I think it's really just artificially and unjustifiably inflated expectations that we get based on all of the ravings of our friends/peer/contacts. I've been to Chicago many times. Love the city. Don't think it's as good as people make it seem, but that's because I'm a cynic and never think that anything will be as good as people say it is.
California, Hollywood specifically, is a perfect example of this. We grow up being told that Hollywood is some far off land (at least far from Ohio) where you go to make your dreams come true. It's really just another crummy city where some people are successful. NYC is the same. People need to stop acting like these are cities paved with gold.

It's like Jalopnik trying to convince everybody how great Detroit is, after they moved to New York.

And by Jalopnik you mean Ray Wert.

I go to school in central Illinois, and our (american) population is probably 80% chicagoan. There's a distinct inferiority complex present vs. NYC/LA

I thought Ray ran tiny toy car, or whatever his new ad firm is called.

True, but he sort of spearheaded the "Detroit are cool" thing while he was running the show here, and a bit of it still lingers.

Ya but Ray is still lurking around.. Like Gollum. Jalopnik his is precious, Matt is Bilbo, naturally.

Pic unrelated.
Side-note: For everyone that is not from Chicago, avoid I-55 at all costs.
