Remember these little Q&A things FithGear does for and after the commercial breaks? In the latest episode it was "What percentage of car owners never wash their car?". And the answer really surprised me! I would have never thought that it was 16%. These numbers probably are UK only, moreso based on some very sketchy poll but still. O.K. I've met some who never wash their car or claim to never wash their car.
One was a mother of one of my students who said that, as a child, together with her dad she had to wash the family car every weekend, and that she grew to hate it and decided that once she owned her own car she would never wash it. At that time she drove a red MK2 Golf that lokked like it hadn't been washed in years.
Another one is a friend of mine who has to drive a lot, so he has an A4 TDI wagon (I know Automatch bait and so on) company car. He says that the dealership washing it when he takes it there to get it serviced or the summer/winter wheels mounted is good enough for him.
I just thought that these there extremes. But 16%?
I'm not very anal about the cleanliness of my car, but I still do enjoy giving it a proper rub down inside and out. Especially in the summertime! It's more of a cleansing of the soul. I get to do something completely unrelated to my work and can relax while doing manual labour. So it gets a fresh protective coat of wax about twice a year, and while I tend to wash it more often when the weather is nice, I at least prevent rust damage by washing the salt of regularly in winter.

I have not washed mt Jetta in about 2 years and counting, the Portland rain is quite adequate to get it "clean enough". Besides, all that dirt is the only thing holding the clear coat on!

No, Portland Oregon. So no worries about salt, winters, etc.. But it rains nearly every day in the fall/winter/spring, so having a clean car usually only lasts for a few hours.

I can't understand how people can drive a dirty car day in and day out. I find car cleaning very therapheutic and even do my friends cars for them. There's something to be said for returning a car to it's former glory. Though I've seen some cars damaged purely by people not cleaning the car correctly.

Washing a car incorrectly to me is worse than not doing it at all.
Took eight hours to wash, decon, polish and seal to get to this after eight years of drive through car washes. EDIT. It didn't want to upload the full size pictures.
