I live in Waterloo. If Blackberry packs up shop, even after getting the $1B in funds, the tech sector here is still very diverse. It will take a huge hit obviously, but others will fill the voids. Google has a small office here and has wanted to expand with Motorola. And we have two Universities in town, the University of Waterloo may very well expand into some of the RIM/BB buildings. Maybe they'll give Chris Hadfield (now a prof at the Uni) one to do 'space things' in.
According to numbers released yesterday, BB still has a larger user base in the US than Microsoft/Windows Mobile.
The new CEO is like Alan Mullaly, he saves companies.
