...the search for well priced 15x7 wheels with 4.5-4.75" backspacing (+25mm offset) with a 4x4.5" (4x114.3) becomes more serious.

I have been hunting wheels a lot of my car and anything +20mm to +40mm is easy to find... unfortunately I'm looking for 4.5" backspace, 9 to 10 inch wide, wheels in around -20 mm offset depending on width. Teh suck.
Are you looking for a specific style? Are you looking for higher quality or just anything to drive on? I managed to buy some temporary wheels off a company that sells through ebay that were surprisingly not terrible. I think they were about $500 shipped for 2 18x8's and 2 18x9.5s. I just needed something since I changed lug patterns and couldn't move the car without them.

I know XXR's are tempting, but I cracked 3 of them so I'd say no. But you probably know that they suck. I was young and naive.

That's the exact opposite of the problem encountered looking for old GM 4wd C10HD wheels in greater than 15". GM offered a very limited number of 16" and 16.5" rims, but those are nigh-impossible to find. They carried forward the bolt pattern (6/6.5") to modern trucks, but the backspacing on all modern trucks is too much and interferes with the brakes.
Normally, buying lower backspaced wheels for a newer truck to give it wider track would fix the problem, but here's the kicker: the bolt pattern remained the same, but they changed inch to metric studs (so the locating is sub-optimal), and the older wheels are semi hub-centering because the lug pattern center is fo shit. Result: wheel vibration.
We've had a set of shitty "Pacer" 16s on the family Suburban (mid-80s) because the original 15s are terrible for driving a 6000lb+ vehicle, and with the oversize center hole, shitty locating, and other issues we've had the very devil of the time trying to have everything perfect and balanced.

In my case it's a 1961 car that has 80HP and 2600LBs. So a decidedly low stress application. If I were going to autocross it I'd be saying hell no. I really want Bassett wheels but they only go upto 4" backspacing.

I'm kind of aiming for an old school racer look. A lot of guys run minilite style wheels but they just don't do it for me. I'd be cool with artillery wheels too.
