Interesting. They tear apart a 2013 Mustang and make it a classic. One guy commented it might be cheaper to just update a 66-69 Mustang with modern parts.

It is original and probably more reliable though, also less guilty about taking it out in the winter lol

Are those current gen cars converted to classic bodyshells? They look a little odd in proportions, but not bad at all.

Also, I know this is extremely unrealistic, but, considering how popular these cars were back in the day and how they came back to popularity recently, why didn't the automakers just... put them back in production? I mean, I know it sounds unfeasible, but with all the time and money they threw at creating retro stiling with modern touches, wouldn't it have been much easier to just take the old shape, which everybody liked, and wrap it around a brand new platform? I know there would be safety implications, among other things, but the Challenger and Camaro are almost identical to their old selves, so why wouldn't those old selves work just like them?

If GM came up and announced this as 2013 model, I'd lose my pants. Seriously, I'd rip them off with the massive boners I'd be having.

It's cool to see people doing it though.

Just proves these style cars will never go out of style.

Allow me to shout out insurance and safety concerns upon you. I also agree they should of done this.

Oh yeah, insurance, that too. But still, Iwonder if it wouldn't be possible to make a car with the exact appearance of the old Challenger, for example, but that behaved exactly the same and was about as safe and efficient as the new Challenger.

I mean, would a simple reskin of the current car imply such a decrease in safety ratings when they already are pretty similar to begin with?

All the old cars were METAL. ALL METAL...there would need to be plastic and such, also crumple zones and such....you would need to stretch and bend said metals. But you can easily modify an older chassis and put it on a newer one.

My point exactly, the new versions would be the same as the old ones in sheetmetal only. Everything under the skin (and even some parts of the skin) would be developed as a new car. For example, a Chevelle built on top of the Zeta Platform would feature a brand new chassis, IRS, and a modern LS engine, just like the current Camaro. Bumpers could be made of plastic if the need be, and interiors would feature 3 point seatbelts, headrests and whatever other safety measures are required these days, while still retaining a classic look.

I think that would be an awesome project someone should do! Someone should really try this.

I would if I had the monies... It's one of those ideas I entertain every now and then, even though they're nearly impossible to accomplish, except mine was to take a racing spec space frame, like those used in the Brazilian Stock Car chamiponship, and adapt the bodyshell of a classic Muscle car into it. Try to make it as close to the original as possible, on the outside, but with a touring car on the inside.

Then again, they already do something like that in Argentina, for the Turismo Carretera championships:

If you look closely, you'll notice that the current bodyshell used by Chevrolet on the championship is none other than that of the 1969 Nova with a heavily modified nose. Imagine something like that, but with a stock bodyshell and tamer internals instead, and you'll have a good idea of what I wanted to do.

there are regulations like the shape of the front has to be slanted so it doesn't throw pedestrians under the tires if they are hit. There are other safety things they have to consider.

But also, I don't think people would buy them at all. Sometimes being reminded of the good ole days is better than seeing the good ole days all the time.
