Says Japanese Mag X. Apparently the car will be launched around 2015, and will have a compact 1.2 liter, turbo 4. Toyota has a small team of Kawasaki engineers working together with the Toyota team that develops the car, due Kawasaki's experience with small engines for bikes and jet skies.

The design will either be retro-ish, to resemble the old Sports 800(yotahachi), either very modern and sharp, it is also said to have a hatch, instead of a classic trunk lid.

Manufacturers should use KickStarter. Then, all the nice projects like this one will be paid for in advance and most will actually happen. Everyone will be happy drifting their Kawasaki-engined turbo midgets and the manufacturers will have so much incentive.

Make it happen before the oil runs out!

One important question remains though... Will it still be RWD?

Because if yes, then I'd better start saving right now. But I wouldn't have to save for too long. Because it'd be cheap. Awesome.

Yes, there are big chances that it will be an FR car, built mostly with existing parts. Gazoo Racing built this FR hatchback a couple of years ago, using parts from the Aygo, a small hatchback Toyota sells in the EU.

Now, it is said that the new car will be based on that concept, with the development of new parts, kept as minimum as possible. I do hope that will get a sexier, coupe-ish body.

I'd wonder if they'd think of going smaller with the engine to officially put this in kei car territory.

"Toyota has a small team of Kawasaki engineers..."

I saw what they did there.

I bet to be on that team you had to be able to climb inside a toy balloon. Then they would know you are small.
